I remember being at Colt in Harford in the 60s and talking to Walt Gleason head of engineering at the time. He asked what I thought they shoud bring out, I immediately replied, the Shooting Master or New Service in 44 mag to compete with S & W . He told me that Colt discarded all that machinery and equipment 10 years ago. They could have saved it all in a small corner of their bldgs. Just another Colt mistake. Just like the 38 Gold Cup. There were about 6 of us smiths building 38 conversions using of course 38 supers converted. Instead of copying all the good features and coming out with a good one they came out with the one that generally wouldnt shoot and coulnt be fixed as it was straight blowback. They hired Geo Elliason to solve the problems. He tried everything including the chamber rings to retard the emty from extracting too soon. All that came out of the whole deal was Geoges rear sight, an improvement
