I'll try to avoid getting too wordy with this post. My choice for a gun that will be as close to 100% right from the get-go and shot heavily will start as a Caspian receiver and slide built with the best possible internal parts and fitting to as tight of tolerances as possible. I think a bare slide with no rollmarks is just as good as it gets, and Caspian's stuff is top notch. There is a lot to be said, IMHO, for a gun that was machined to fit from the start versus one that was rebuilt. For classiness and character, nothing beats an older commercial Colt. Alas, they are hard to find and VERY expensive as base guns. I have no weak spot in my heart for series 70 or 80 Colts of any kind except Deltas, and although they are nice, especially the new 70s, they just don't do it for me like the commercial guns. The rollmarks on commercial guns of every make are really nice, and they just have that alure. I did a long response to what I thought was a ridiculous thread on another forum a while back and have put the link below. It goes over, in detail, my reasons for feeling the way I do about ALL 1911 makes.
