Eventually I'm going to do both, but which should I do first?

Dude, that's the toughest question I think I've ever read on this forum. Do the 1911 first, because the wait is generally a bit longer. Then, with about 6-8 months into the 1911 wait, submit the request for the Nimrod.

Also, just to add my $0.02, go for a .45 Colt in the Nimrod. It's an EXTREMELY versatile round, especially in a 5-shot gun, and unless you'll actually be hunting dangerous game somewhere, you don't need anything bigger. Maybe not even then. I have seen what a moderate .45 Colt will do to a deer at decent ranges, and it works. Besides, it's a helluva lot more fun to shoot in long sessions if you load it down a bit.

Sorry for the rant. I'm a bit of a SA revolver fan. Either way... great choices in guns.

I like the Nimrod......very nice. I don't know if I would go for a 45 or 475, either would be fun if it can be loaded to various levels. 1911's and N frame S&W's are my favorites but a nice single action is on the list.

My suggestion is if you want both, then get in line for both. Open up a money market, interest bearing account and have a few hundred dollars direct deposited every month until you are called up by Bowen or your 1911 smith of choice.

Buy your base guns in the meantime and shoot a few rounds through them for the hell of it and then grease them up and put them in the safe tucked away where you will forget about them.

If you overextend yourself or both guns come up for the jobs at the same time you can move down a list so you can save up some more dough.

Who is building your 1911?

Well, the .475 Nimrod is on my "short list of guns I will buy when I win the lotto", but it is second on My list behind a full house custom .45 built on a nice commercial model! This is one of those decisions that I would Love to have to make!
