Hey, I found you all. I thought it seemed a little quite on some of the other forums.

I am waiting my obligitory (mumble) months for my Commander to work its way through rotation. It gives me time to decide what I "really" want.

I like the spur hammer, like the one on Ted Y's 1*. Is it feasible to have a spur hammer with a modified beavertail. Say the Ed Brown model. I need to have the beavertail, my hand just gets to beat up otherwise. I think you would want the hammer and beavertail to kind of work together? I would love to hear some of your thoughts.

My first 1911 was a Colt that I saved up money to buy when I was in college. I had it customized a little at a time as I got the money saved up for the mods. A Wilson original #66 beavertail was installed and the Colt factory spur hammer was shorten the allow functioning with the beavertail. When Wilson came out with the then new high ride beavertail with the "memory bump", I had it installed. Since I didn't specify a replacement hammer, that 'smith had to grind a little more off the already shortened hammer. There wasn't much left of the hammer, though it still had enough mass to reliably ignite primers and also allowed thumb manipulation should I need it. While functional, I didn't care for the "nub" look hammer. I finally had a "slotted commander" hammer installed.

fanooch, STI makes a spur type hammer that works just fine with any of the available beavertails out there. Best,

smooth one- no,no...no "nub" look. My favorite spur hammer is the one Ted Yost does on his 1*. Does he make those himself? Not that I'm into looks  But that looks great.

Don-thanks for the heads up on the STI's

Hmmm, can Mr. Y put his spur hammer with a Brown beavertail and make it work....without reinventing the wheel. Sorry, just thinking out loud.

Ted can definitely make it work, as the STI spur hammer will fit just fine with the Brown beavertail.

Ted worked on a Colt and I too love the spur hammer but have "fleshy" hands. He worked the stock grip safety work great for me -- no bite!
