I recently bought a frame at one of the local shops. It was pretty cheap so I figured I'd pick it up and throw it on the back burner as (yet another) 1911 project.

The previous owner cut the frame tangs for a beavertail. The cuts are polished and even and look pretty well done so I didn't think too much about it when I bought the frame. But now I find that the tangs are too short for the Les Baer safety I was planning on using.

Is there that much variation in grip safety cuts/brands that some other brand of safety will fit okay? If not, I suppose the only option is to weld up the tangs and re-cut them.

Anybody have any suggestions?

TIA!

Try a Wilson #298 beavertail. If that one doesn't give you room for clean up, then welding is in order.

If you need welding, EGW does a terrific job for a very reasonable price. They did mine, and it looks fantastic. Give 'em a call if you have no luck fitting another beavertail on there.
