ok guys. im having a custom built. i wanted a little advice on the trigger. i "think" i need a long trigger but am unsure. i have never shot one with a long trigger installed. but i have big/long hands so i figured i would need a long trigger. if this helps it seems like a standard length trigger on a 1911 has me "hooking" the trigger if that makes sense......

glocks, xd's are all the same also with the way the trigger feels.

My hands are not real big (medium glove) but I prefer a long trigger /arched mainspring housing combo. I've seen alot of people with large/XL hands using oversized grips and long triggers on their 1911's.

My hands are medium-size and I vastly prefer a long trigger on my 1911s. It is probably just a personal preference/feel kind of decision. It seems to me that very few of us would have serious problems actually using any length so go with what feels best to you.

Bearing in mind that I am a lousy shot, and generally incompetent besides: over time I have changed my triggers to shorter. I have medium to small hands, and that makes a difference.

When I am shooting at the range, especially slow fire, I like to have my distal finger pad bent a tiny bit more than 90 degrees to the long axis of the frame/slide, and then use the mid-portion of the distal finger, or even just past that.

Your hands are different than mine, and the strength of your fingers are different than mine, as is the quality of your joints and perception, as may be your gun usage.
Soooooooo
, what I am trying to say
Is you ought to look at it from a matter of geometry for your hands, as they hold the gun (?how high a grip, how far around and tight?). Also, if you use an Arched main spring housing, it seems to push you hand up and around alittle bit more, and may affect the length.

I think if you figure those things out, while holding a gun in your hands, it will be a little more obvious what trigger you want. The best news is, triggers are generally an easy swap out (but not always, I had a "drop in" that was a bit sticky).

best

Richard

I believe that a short trigger is best for average hands in a combat/carry gun, but might not be the best for target shooting. Any, that's my take and I have a short trigger on my carry 1911 but long on my target./range guns.

Try the one you think will fit you best. the beauty of the 1911 is that you can change to a different length trigger without having to otherwise alter the gun if you find a different length is better for you.

Nobody has mentioned the medium length trigger. This seems to work best for me with a flat MSH. I think a long trigger would be a close second.
My hands are average size, but I have long fingers.

I have always preferred the long trigger and flat MS housing setup. But it is really something you need to go to the range and try out for yourself.
