Ladies and Gentlemen,

I's been a while since I've posted. I was without a computer for almost a month and a half, so my time on the forums has been very little.

Here is a 10mm Caspian Longslide Dave Sams built for me last year. It's simple, accurate, and reliable.

The parts used were:

Caspian 6" Slide:
-Kart 6” NM 10mm C/P Ramped Barrel
-NM Bushing, Wrench Tight (Never Removed Anyway)
-6” Full Length Guide Rod & Plug Cut for 5” Springs
-22# Wolff Recoil Spring
-Bo-Mar Rear Sight w/Novak Dovetailed & Pinned Front, Ramped & Serrated
-AFTEC Extractor
-Caspian Firing Pin & Stop

Caspian Receiver Serial Number “JAK002”:
-Ed Brown Extended Ejector
-Ed Brown Mag Catch & Lock
-Nowlin Plunger Tube
-Nowlin Pin Set
-EGW Slide Stop
-Greider Long Solid Trigger
-Cylinder & Slide Hammer, Sear, & Disconnector
-McCormick Beavertail Grip Safety
-Colt Stock Bushings
-Ed Brown Hex Grip Screws
-Wolff Mainspring & Sear Spring
-Ed Brown Magwell
-Dave Sams Custom Stocks

I use this gun as a target & hunting pistol only, as carrying it concealed just isn’t happening. I love the longslide setup on a 10mm, and shooting true 10mm loads in it is actually enjoyable. Even with a relatively heavy recoil spring, the combination of the AFTEC extractor and the extended ejector let the brass fly. After extensive shooting with all sorts of 10mms, I’m not certain that AFTEC extractors are even necessary. Yes, they work very well, but they cannot be “tuned” like a standard extractor and are a bit of a pain to remove and keep track of. The fact that they don’t take well any sort of finish other than hard chrome well is a very slight detractor, too. But, in a gun like this one that won’t see anything other than a range or the field, the AFTEC is fine. Dave stocks are absolutely beautiful, but I kinda screwed him on this one, as I didn’t ask for the magwell until he was almost done with the grips. They fit pretty damn close on the lower edge, but he’d just started to break the corner on the left panel when I called him, so the taper actually hits inside the magwell edge. I may lose the magwell soon and just have the MSH replaced and grips dressed in fully. Other than that, it’s standard fare for Dave… extremely reliable and silly accurate.

I have been wondering where you had been. Thanks for the photos and all
the 10mm tech data you have been generous enough to share.

Are those some of Dave Sam's custom stocks on your longslide?
Very nice and they look great on the longslide.

Thank you for sharing these pictures.

Outstanding looking guns in my favorite caliber.

My carry gun is a 5" Caspian 10mm. I'd like to try your Commander, I have a feeling I'd be a convert.

Thanks again- very nice guns.

Brent

Jim:

One more thing- if you're sick of refinishing the Commander and you can tolerate the look, I've found hard chrome to be freakishly impervious to everything I've thrown at it.

Very nice.
He sure does nice work.

I like the 10mm, and have had a few, but don't have a single one now. I realy should address that.

Sorry folks. I separated the guns to reduce the images on this post for dial-up users. Thanks for looking!

Jim

Great looking gun. And what Steve said on the grips. Wow. The wood is very, very, nice.

Also on the reduction of pictures. For those of us who still are with the telephone modem your consideration is greatly appreciated.

Jim, I used to follow your custom guns religiously.

Good to see you posting on the forums again!

BTW - like all of Sams guns, fantastic.

Cheers!
