Fellow 1911 Enthusiats,

Up for your gun pr0n pleasure is this...

A 1911 in 10mm that has some Chuck Rogers contributions with something very special. Clarification: The golf-ball treatments, ball-end mill cuts, etc. are Chuck's handiwork. The remainder was done to my specs when it went thru Cerakote. In addition, both an Ambi-Safety and a Wilson Bulletproof light-weight hammer were also installed.

What you see is a weapon that was originally stainless, that has been Cerakoted...

But not just ANY Cerakote. This is a multi-color Cerakote applied in a Camo pattern...

But its not just multi-color. This is the latest in Cerakote - IR-Invisible Cerakote...

But, if the whole thing were just coated in IR-Invisible Cerakote, it would still be easy to find because it would stick out like a sore thumb due to having no IR reflectivity, so...

This is a strategically applied IR-Invisible Cerakote, mixed with IR-Visible Cerakote to create a weapon whose IR signature makes it appear as totally organic and therefore very difficult to detect with IR.

Enjoy! 17 Pix Total.

-Ken

P.S. Chuck - your work is AMAZING...

Interesting and rather complicated.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but other than "to show it can be done", Why bother ?

I'm not knocking it, just wondering what possible operational situation would demand a handgun in such a finish.

I don't understand the concept... why bother with an IR-invisible finish? How can that help? Don't mean to sound contrary, but 'why'?

Mebbe I'm behind the times. I don't doubt that at all. Is there such a thing as IR-invisible clothing/boots/facemasks/gloves? It seems that an 'uncovered' adversary would be easy enough to find w/ IR, IR-invisible gun or not. I guess my point is, the only time the IR-invisible finish would be worth anything is if the wearer is covered in IR-invisible clothing head to toe at night, or camo'd in the high weeds with his invisible 1911.

That's the beauty(pun intended) of our hobby/profession. We can get what WE want as individuals. While we might not make that expenditure on ours based on needs it still is a fantastic tool that looks amazing.

So, some of you are probably wondering...WHY? Why have this?

Well, interestingly enough, there is demand for weapons with a reduced IR signature, especially in combat situations (the Feds/DHS are really big on this now). However, it is worth noting that while the weapon may have a reduced/invisible signature, the person carrying it would likely have one that is unmistakable.

So, it goes back to WHY. My 2 cents is that this is a weapon someone in the field could "hide" in plain-sight without being on their person, but well within quick reach as part of some contingency plan. What is very interesting though is that the IR-invisible Cerakote is only available to a very select few applicators and is only allowed on weapons to LEOs and the Fed. This one will eventually end up with an LEO, but I wanted to post pictures of it before it went anywhere.

She is going to have a sister with the same coating in a few weeks time - an OD green FN FS2K, and the pair will end up in some lucky LEO's hands ultimately! I am happy to post pics of the rifle when it comes in, if anyone is interested.

We live in very interesting times, IMHO.
