I know with all the custom guns you guys have seen, it's probably not going to impress the folks here, but it sure shoots good and makes me happy. It all started with finding this on Gunbroker:

An old Volkmann. Not at all the look I was going for, but it was something I could have refinished. And I wound up winning it. I posted about it on 1911addicts, and asked who they would get to coat it. One guy suggested I contact the guy who made it -Luke Volkmann and check his schedule. Well, Luke said I could have the seller ship it directly to him, and he'd make any cosmetic changes I needed, send it off for coating, and -since I was broke from buying it -even said I could pay him when the gun was finished. So that's what I did. What was neat was when Luke got it, he told me that this had been his personal gun! Of course, I went ahead and had everything done I wanted. It took a few months to finally get it, but I think it was worth the wait:

The grips are from Wicked, and I think they just make the gun:

slide/frame fit:

I took about a hundred pictures under different flashes and settings to get these to half way come out. It's the hardest thing to photo, the slide's very shiny:

Here's an overview of the work I had done to it:
Rear Logo
Serrate rear of slide
gold dot front post/Harrison rear
polish flats
Ball machine cuts
install/adjust 3 hole match trigger, smooth on face
crown barrel/mongram bushing/plug
ion bond frame/slide/small parts
Wicked grips
Case/spare mags

I also bought a set of grips for "work" because I didn't buy this gun to be a safe queen.

I ran to the woods and cracked off two magazines, amazing trigger, and smooth action. But it shot REALLY high. I called Luke who said the sights were supposed to have a 6 O'clock hold for impact. I shot a tight group, but high. After some practice, I decided I was never going to learn these sights, so as much as I hated to, I sent them back to him to fix. This took a while too, since they had to be re-ion bonded. But I have it back now, and she shoots like a dream, everything exceeds my expectations so far. I hope you like it and thanks for looking.

Very very nice. Luke really did a great job on it. It doesn't look like the original that you bought from me. Congratulations.

What a coincidence, great to see you here! You had Luke make that sweet black carry number for you right? I knew if I had that Volkmann shipped to me, I'd just shoot it and like it and never have it worked on. Did you have it set up for a 6 O Clock hold? Was it that way when you got it? I never could get accustomed to that. And if you don't mind, post up some of that beautiful black combatant commander.
