My first entrance into custom pistols was a build I had done right before the Yost-Bonitz shop split up. I had a vision for a pistol that I could keep and use for thousands of rounds and still look elegant and new when passed onto my son. I am pretty sure that Jason Burton did most of the work on it, but I could be wrong. It is a Caspian frame and slide, with an integral plunger tube and magazine well. I have shot the daylights out of it and it has never failed me in any way. In fact, it still looks brand new. Ionbond is one heck of a finish, if I do say so myself.

One thing that I always thought was lacking on the pistol was a proper set of grips, to compliment it. My father in law and I decided to start offering custom, exotic wood grips about 2 months ago, and this was one of the first off the line. I don't think I could ever be persuaded to sell this set, let alone remove them from the pistol. I figured I would share some pictures. The wood is Red Morrell from Australia. It is fantastically dense and hard.

I joined LTW some time ago because I appreciate the professional attitude, high quality work, and generosity of the smiths here. I too feel the need to give back. I hope that I might be able to make a set of grips for a LTW project gun some day. I would feel honored and blessed to walk among giants, while trying to contribute in my own small way. Thanks for the read.

A nice pistol and a beautiful set of grips! Is he accepting orders? I would like a set of similar grips for my Colt.

Ordered a few sets from Ryan and Brian after reading Ryan's post. Just got my latest set of grips from them. Really amazing work!

They have a website now: challisgrips.com

Brian Challis, a professional artist in wood carving, is specialized in exotic woods. Here are the Australian Red Morrel grips I got from him. The texture and grain are amazing!

I feel like I was a grade school girl playing dressing barbies when I was putting these grips onto my 1911's!

Can't wait for the Honduran Rosewood grips from him. It might take a few more months......

Frank, you are too kind! Your pistols look fantastic! I love Guncrafter Industries 1911's. They are one of the most overlooked and best semi custom makers out there.
