This started as a Springfield Mil-Spec that I bought almost 5 years ago when I first started working for Grayguns. I wanted Bruce to teach me some stuff about building 1911s so I grabbed this and started buying parts.
I did some basic (and in some cases amateurish) upgrades and ran it in this condition for a season or so of USPSA SingleStack:
It languished for a while and then I decided it needed a complete rebuild to turn it into a high class pistol with all the tricks Bruce had taught me over the years.
So a year or so ago I started working on it again off and on in my spare time; this time I gave it the full treatment.
So, its finally finished; unfortunately, since I am starting a new job as a full time Sheriffs Deputy and need to buy a lot of gear its up for sale in the classifieds. This will probably be the last 1911 I'll build for a while, although I am still living an the same place and I will still be involved with Grayguns...
More than anything this gun is a testament to the endless knowledge and skill that my friend and mentor Bruce Gray has tried to impart to me over the years. Its not perfect compared to his work, but maybe one day I'll get there...
Here is what it ended up with for parts:
*Springfield forged frame and slide
*Chen MS Housing
*EGW barstock thumb safety, FP stop plate, ball head disconnector, matching flush bushing and spring plug, hardened pin set and 360deg welded magwell.
*Infinity square hammer
*10-8 Performance slide stop
*Ed Brown mag release, sear, extractor
*Harrison Design rear sight (modified) and long black trigger
*Barsto .45ACP Barrel
*VZ double diamond checkered grips
*Dawson front sight
Other features:
*Frame checkered front and rear by Pete Single (25lpi)
*40lpi hand checkering under trigger guard and 40lpi serrations on rear of slide and sight
*Hardtail conversion
*Line straightening
*smooth flat top on slide
*Extra high cut under beavertail and trigger guard (This thing sits as low as possible with traditional parts)
*Welded slide to frame fit (I didn't do it Les Baer tight, but it locks up really solid).
*Removed roll marks on slide
*Heavy bevel on bottom of slide
*Enhanced flare on ejection port
*Exactly 3lb 3oz trigger every time
*Barrel cut flush with bushing and cut in a rifle style crown I've come to like
*Ball Cuts
*French Border
*Blasted rounds and full frame/ Polished slide flats
*Classic blued finish
I'm pretty happy with how it came out, it feels great ergonomically and just locks into your hands without being sharp. The trigger feels just how I like them and may be the best one I've ever done...
This is For Sale in the classifieds.
Anyway, here's what everyone really cares about, pictures! (Please forgive the oil and lint, I am not a photographer by any stretch of the imagination.)
Thanks for looking, Roy Nelson
