A few bench shots of a recently completed Colt Government Model...
Of all the available finishes my long time favorite has been hard chrome. The finish is a durable classic that has stood the test of time. Another favorite of mine is being given
carte blanche to build a customer’s gun in any manner I desire... on this gun I got to do both.
With the exception of the stock panels I built this gun as if it was going to ride in my holster. Start with a new Series 70 Government Model in 45ACP
(of course!) add a weld-up frame and slide fit, Kart barrel, EGW barrel bushing, and only the best quality internals and we’re off to a great start. The slide top was serrated with two arrow points and then fit with a Gold Line front sight and a modified Heinie rear sight that blends with the 40lpi serrations on the rear of the slide. The front strap and mainspring housing are hand-checkered at 30lpi, the gun is fit with a standard length magazine release, and the EGW grip safety pivots on the “BM” styled thumb safety. A short length trigger sets off the tool steel ignition components and the front of the slide was treated to ball-cuts… ‘cause they look cool. Finish the gun in the aforementioned hard chrome and this gun is ready for many, many holster miles.
Enjoy!
