I didn't quite know where to put this. Often times as I sit at Ted's shop and watch all that goes on, I often catch myself wondering what the future of custom gun building will bring us. With Ted, you realize we are at the forefront of what is being done with 1911's and High Powers along with the rilfe and shotgun builds.
As I thought today playing with the monkees (my kids) on Mothers Day, it is somewhat inconsequential what the future of our current best builders represented here on LTW do in the future. Maybe the examples we see on these pages are the future. Most builders are doing what others before have done. French borders, serrated flat tops, bevels, internal work. However, has anyone done it better than the best are doing it today? I don't think so. We are still doing those same things....The end user the customer and shooter are maybe enjoying the best the industry has to offer...from any era. The machining is certainly better, the parts are better, and the experience speaks for itself.
How much better could it get, if any? My hat is off to the guys like Yost, Christiansen, Rogers, Williams, Chen, Harrison, and C.T. Brian who are putting out today what others will look at and call the best of the best. There will be other builders no doubt. But, is anyone going to be able to better the platform, or enhance these guns with more taste? Again, I doubt it. If so, I can't wait to see what the future has to bring.
I feel fortunate to be with the best teacher I know and to pick the brains of the others I still continue to study. The LTW #1 certainly represents all of what I am mentioning here. I think the old guard would be proud of what you have all done.
Congrats to you guys. And thanks....this is fun.
BTW...this is not an ass kiss post. Just a sincere thanks.
