It seems shocking that such a critical aspect of a checkering file could be missed. Are these Grobet files?

Indeed... not the first time I've seen it and one of the reasons I inspect each file before putting it to work.

These are from Grobet... and I should add that they still make great tools but like the guy said "sh&t happens".

Photo of the day... one of the final details I add to a gun before de-horn and prep are rear slide serrations. These are on a current Colt Government Model project that is being prepped for blueing now.

Photo of the day… built in 2018, this gun was recently back in the shop for a new/different front sight. The slide was re-blued while here but it is nice to see a gun like this being enjoyed.

Photo of the day... blended bottom end of the grip safety on a Colt LW Commander 9mm. Top still needs work as does the overall shape but the photos show the grip safety in the position as depressed/deactivated by the shooter.

Photo of the day... a bit of cocking serration reconstruction on this Colt LW Commander 9mm. Both sides got re-cut but this one was by far the ugliest of the two.

Photo of the day... 40lpi hand cut checkering on the front strap of this Colt 9mm LW Commander. Aluminum is always more “fun” to checker and doing it at 40lpi adds to the excitement.

So, do you make the file cuts between breaths, or what? Jeez!

Photo of the day... lots of photos today showing the progression of the beavertail and thumb safety modifications. I generally fit the beavertail early in the build but wait to completely blend and modify it until other aspects of the gun are done. Although some of these photos are a repeat from a week or so ago, the pictures here show all of the basic steps for the beavertail fit as well as the contouring of the thumb safety.
