Photo of the day... now that the mag-well has been checkered I’ll blend it to the frame on this current Colt Government Model project.

Photo of the day... making a gold line front sight from start to finish for this current Colt Government Model project. The correct height of the front sight has already been established and confirmed at 25 yards before inlaying the gold. Now it’s time to blend it to the slide.

Photo of the day... rear slide serrations are generally one of the last things I do on a build. From here I can now de-horn, border, prep, and blue this current Colt Government Model project.

Photo of the day... assembly of the finished pistol always has one part I dislike the most, staking the plunger tube. This always seems to present the most risk of scratching the freshly blued gun… this one turned out okay. Now to put the rest of this Colt Government Model together.

Photo of the day... chambering and setting headspace. The chamber on this barrel was left shallow so that, once the barrel hood is fit to make solid contact with the breech-face, the headspace could be set.

Photo of the day... mainspring housing checkering and blending to the frame. The first photo shows the layout, once the verticals are established the horizontal lines are cut with the masking tape as a visual guide.

Photo of the day... range results that tell me a few things. I shoot groups better at a “buff” colored target than a black bullseye, the gun really never stops moving, and I need to take just a bit more off the front sight.

Both groups are 5 rounds shot from sanding at 25 yards. Top group the POA was the neckline, bottom group POA was the (apparently harder to see) center of the bullseye.

Photo of the day... prep and polish for bluing. I think I have more hours in this project than any before it, but this gun is a true one-off in many ways. Complimenting items have already been blued, now it’s time to finish the polish on the frame and the slide and blue them to match.
