Photo of the day... the current Colt Government Model project is ready for the range. Once the gun has been tested and the sight height confirmed I'll machine the slide for ball-cuts, do the de-horn, and prep for final finish.

Photo of the day... squaring the breech face. The barrel needs to make solid contact with the breech face when in battery and have no fore or aft movement (end shake).

I've never seen one so wavy! Seems like by now they'd have that process down a little better. Nice job of detection / correction.

Really, if after 110 years you can't get it right, it might be time to take some corrective action.

All better now... radial lugs timed with the red sharpie showing solid contact on 1 and 2 while just starting to pick up #3. Barrel feet now machined as well.

Sometimes it’s all about the checkering... here’s some views from the current Colt Government Model project in the works.

I call this first shot the “gut check”... the vertical lines have been laid out on the mag-well and now it’s time to cross them. The gut check part is not messing up the mag-well I have otherwise already fit to the gun. You can see the masking tape I use as a guide for the horizontal lines, this is 30lpi.

The finished checkering pattern, blended, and complete.

The mag-catch before and after... angled and hand-checked at 40lpi.

The front strap... from the laid out pattern to completed points. This is 30lpi to match the mag-well shown above.

I agree in addition to the checkering I look at each picture and something new always comes up. The attention to detail is amazing and the end product is phenomenal.

The current Colt Government Model project... mag-well, shooting results with 5 rounds from standing at 25 yards, and ball-cuts on the slide.
