Certainly can't say I am getting the "hang" of this but I might have a better understanding of what the smiths do. I am getting somewhat more effecient on the machine work, but enjoy the work using my hands the most. The two tone Special Combat was originally Jason Burton's (A Johnston) and then went to another friend of mine Lenny Cianciotto. I got it from Lenny just to see if I could clean it up a little. It was a fun project and I am happy with the gun overall. Had a chance to take some photos. Best of all this one shoots beautifully. Our practice ammo is Winchester 230 gr. ball, but our duty ammo is 230 gr. Speer Gold Dot. This one seems to like both.

The Kimber Compact below started as a Series I and I built it with the things I like. STI grip safety, Heinie's, serrated rear of slide, and checkered the frontstrap at 30lpi. Probably not for everyone but the hard chrome really made these guns stand out, he did an outstanding job. Ted patiently watched over me on both of these guns waiting for me to screw the pooch.........I did, but like I have said, my mistakes become my style from time to time. Fixing them is the fun part. Ted crowned the barrel on this one and it is perfect. I don't have a picture of it...sorry.

I heard through the grapevine that 1911s have trouble feeding those Gold Dots. I haven't shot too many Gold Dots, but don't recall any problems through my Yost/Bonitz/Bailey guns All of mine gobble up the Ranger ammo, or anything I feed them. So what are you guys doing differently to get such consistent and reliable feeding?? :D

You certainly turned that Compact into a Diamond!! I can't believe it is the same gun.

John, I have been shooting the Gold Dot ammo for several years now since it has been our issue duty ammo for some time. To be honest until recently I hadn't heard of any problems with this particular ammo. I haven't experienced any FTF's in several guns. The other day I had Win white box jamming in my blued S80 gun. I can't figure it out, the round was jamming into the ceiling of the barrel hood and the slide would stay about a third out of battery. I haven't had Ted diagnose it yet, but he'll know what the problem is.
I shot the Compact specifically with Gold Dot ammo, about six mags worth and it seemed to deal with it fine. The Compact turned out better than I thought it would. The only thing I would like to change is the grips...they are a little thick for my liking. The two tone is a freak, Ted originally did the trigger, and Chuck layed hands on it as well. This thing would feed a dishwasher if I tried it. Shoots extremely accurately and now looks a little better.

Ray, you had a little to do with these...As I remember you were the quality control guy. :P Between you and Ted chiming in it is just a slice of heaven in the shop.

No, why, the court just keeps letting 'em out, so we can go catch 'em again. I figure they'll be there when I get around to it.

BTW, your not with Professional Standards are you Tim? :P
