Hey Fellows,
I've recently had a gun returned from our fine friends in Arizona.
This gun started life as a fairly good limited production peice, but I thought that getting a few things done to it would be nice.
Technically, this gun started as a "Two Tone, Ed Brown Class A Limited Bobtail Commander with Nightsights". Quite the mouthful.

I sent it down for some minor stuff, but Ted fixed this one up good!
Here is what was done:
  • Flatten and serrate top of slide to a point.
  • Serrate rear of slide to match sight.
  • Replace sights with Heinie Slant-Pro Straight Eights.
  • Bevel front sight to match slide.
  • Cut the front strap high and smoothe.
  • Recut 30LPI front strap checkering (factory looked like crap).
  • Checker MSH to match front (these come bald from EB).
  • Ramp and throat work.
  • Refinish.
I'd also swear that he did something with the trigger. While it was nice before I sent it to him, it's is absolutely exceptional now. I was shocked to see that it still broke at about 3 pounds, as it feels lighter.

Overall, this guns is fantastic. No complaints, and the work just looks extraordinary. I'm considering making this my daily packing gun, especially for warm weather.

I seem to recall seeing that blaster in the shop a few months ago. I was really disappointed in the factory checkering. It's nice to see the result of Ted's tune up. It's much improved.

Enjoy!

Just a tiny amount of tweaking on the trigger. These guns come out of the factory pretty nice, and really don't need much. A little TLC, and paying attention to areas the production guys can't spend the time on, and they become something really nice!

Glad you're happy - I'd ask how it shoots, but I already know
Bailey and I tried to wear it out while it was in the shop. Steve was all hot and bothered because some internet experts were saying that Gold Dot should be avoided because it doesn't feed, so I had him bring a bunch of it to the indoor range - where a whole bunch of it went downrange through your Brown and a few other pieces. At the end of the session, rumour debunked, guns tested, floor amply covered in brass, Bailey smiling - all in all, a pretty good day. Thanks for the opportunity!

YOU MEAN THE GOLD DOT RUMOR ISN'T TRUE??? Or maybe it is true in certain guns? :D I guess I dont have to carry 230 grain ball anymore.....

That's a very nice gun!!! The Ed Brown Custom Carry is now CA approved too!

John,

Even my Commander feeds the Gold Dot smoothly. It must be something special that only works in AZ.

I have to add this in here on the ammo comment. As most on this forum have seen there seems to be a bunch of self appointed experts on other forums who's have issues with every new very tight handgun (bought at a discount of course) that has fired less then a box of some wonder ammo (at a discount of course) and sometime wonder why it does not function. Keep in mind there is a number of "me to" type posts.

I have the miss fortune of working about 30 to 40 gun shows a year (plus my full time job) and listen to many so called issues and plenty of ammo vendors who move more ammo than my back can handle. The vendors are real sensitive to rumors as one rumor slows sales and when there is little margin to play with. The only complaint I hear is the cost of Gold Dot ammo over the other premium or defensive grade ammo.

I do hear the occasionaly complaint on the generic ammos and the stuff from Speer i.e. Lawman had a bad lot (something to do with powder change and crimp) a few years ago and there is still some out there being sold for a real cheap price. There is always a reason for cheap prices and the buyer undying gratitude has nothing to do with it.

This may be the stuff in question or just another unaccountable keyboard commando at his/her best.

Whoops.

Forgot. What kind of wood are the grips made of and nice job on the top of slide serrations.

Terry,
The grips are Rosewood grips made by Hogue is what I was told.

Yeah that’s what we thought... the trigger was so-so when the gun left for Ted’s shop but now it’s terrific!!

Ed Brown’s guns start off pretty damn nice and are probably the best of the “semi-custom” lot. This gun just goes to show that adding a few options and correcting a few things can make these guns excellent pieces.

And how 'bout that, as a bonus it’ll even shoot Gold Dots now!!

Too bad Ted couldn't fix that butt-ugly Bob-Tail. YECH!! I might be in the minority here, but I really don't like it at all. But, on a more positive note, other than the Bob Tail, that gun is EXCEPTIONAL! The trigger falls into the scary-good category. I can't wait to get my OACP back from Ted to own some of the Yost mojo myself!!
