Hello. I came across an original 92 with the single action safety. Sights are terrible (like original 1911's) as is the trigger. Can these early 92's be customized just like modern 92FS or are they're weaker in the frame or some other issues. Please let me know asap -- either way. Thanks in advance.

hoser, As far as I remember, except for the safety type, sights and mag catch location. they're not too different. The sights can be a problem here though, as the front is so small, and there's not enough material to dovetail something in. If you have a choice, I'd pass, unless someone has a solution to the sight problem (short of a new slide). Regards,

Hoser,

The original 92 lacked the slide break safety, which is a slot milled into the slide. The sights can be replaced easily. My regular gunsmith, Dave Sams, is somewhat handy with the Beretta (a huge understatement). I've owned two of his builds on Berettas, and there is nobody out there even comparable. The trigger can be worked to butter, and the sight easily taken care of. If you're interested, his number is (804)375-3782. Call him.

I actually have an email into him about it. Hope he can help determine this front sight issue.

Hoser,

Although you have an e-mail in, I'd still recommend calling. It may be a few days until you get an e-mail response, and Dave prefers calls. Odd, I know, but you'll have it staright from the horse's mouth and a lot quicker. FWIW, he's in his shop daily from 6AM until 830-9PM Eastern time.
