I'm having a custom 45/400corbon gun built, but now I'm considering 40 Super instead of the 400Corbon.

Can anyone give me some info on this idea?

doubletap is getting ready to produce some hot 40 Super rounds; looks like a more versatile cartridge.

I messed around with a custom Springfield and an Ed Brown .400 Corbon barrel a few years ago. I never could get the gun to feed reliably with more than five rounds in a magazine so I gave up. The rounds nosedive severely once the cases start to separate in the magazine stack. The .40 Super is supposed to have a little longer case body but I doubt that'll really make a huge difference.

In actual use, I doubt there's any real reason for the .400 Corbon to exist. Yes, it'll push a light bullet pretty fast but once you start using 165's, 180's, etc., the velocity advantage disappears and the cartridge turns into a .45 with a small bullet.

In a purely "1911" platform (and I exclude the slightly larger, "1911 on steriods" which is the LAR GRIZZLY and which shoots the very powerful 45 Win Mag with surprising reliability and not a lot of 'bite') if you want to 'step up' from a 45 ACP, I'd go with either the 50 GI or the Clark Custom drop in kit for $275 for the 460 Rowland. The former is just one great built, functional and delightful way to upgrade over the standard 45 ACP. Now for a whole lot less, I have dropped the dead stock 460 Rowland into a simple, cheap Springfield GI replica (costs around $400 new.) It was a drop in conversion even an idiot like me could handle. The ballistics on the round speak for themselves and the recoil with the built in muzzle brake make the gun no more difficult to control than a mildly-hot 45 ACP. You can get loaded 460 Rowland from Georgia Ammo for not a lot or load your own, dies available. Even on this rather simple 1911 with primitive GI style sights, groups are rather decent. Noisy sucker, however, but I suspect the 'hot rod' you are contemplating will be as well. Photos below. Dave
