I am currently stationed in Bagdahd, Iraq where I am the Company Commander for Dragon Company, 3-7 Infantry Battalion. We have been working the streets of this hell hole for 11 months and are looking forward to comming home soon. I am especially anxious to get back so I can take delivery of my new pistol from John Harrison.

I searched long and hard through the pages of LTW before asking John Harrison to build my pistol. The problem was that I wanted a few things that only Ned Christianson could do. John called Ned and they agreed to work together on my pistol.

Throughout the process both John and Ned have been wonderful. I rushed to ship my new Springfield off to John while home on leave and have been dreaming of what it will turn out like ever since. The pistol will undergo a long list of modifications including an Ed Brown Bobtail MSH, a hard chrome re-finish, and too many other things to list.

I will post pictures when I return. I can't say enough about John and Ned. They are both gentelmen of the highest order. Im already planning my next project, a 10mm. John, are you ready for another?

Matt,
You have contracted with some of the best of the best. Not only are they amazing craftsman, but fine gentlemen.

As good as their work is im not completely sure it is worth a year in Iraq....

We too look forward to your safe return, receipt of your new 1911 and lots of photos.

As the father of three I would like to thank you for your service to our country; We are proud of you all.

I guess 0400 (Iraq time) is a good time to post. I just walked in the door and already 4 replies. Looks like a Marine and a former Cottonbaler are out there too.

Thanks to all for the kind words. 15 years in the Army (8 enlisted) and it seems like right now there is more public support than ever. It could just be that LTW members are the gun crazy patriotic type, I know I am, but I honestly still feel like America supports it's soldiers.

I can't wait to see what John and Ned come up with. Everything I have seen from them makes me believe that both the wait and the money will be well worth it.

Well, Matt, you know, I enjoy doing what I can for guys like you and it's actually kinda fun not tellin' anybody about it..... then along you come and put an IED in there and blow the lid off it...

So now that John and I are outed  , let me tell you that we are happy and proud to be on this for you. I'm sure it's safe to say that when you're at LTW you're among some of your strongest supporters, but we ain't the only ones. All the Moms and Pops and boys and girls back here are rootin' for all of you. You see any of your brothers start to doubt it and you tell 'em.

Wish the project was done and a cozy 98.6 right now.

Matt:
I thank you for your service on this Veterans Day 2005.

This had been a black ops until now. I sneaked and peeked my way around John's shop but he never say a word about this collaboration with the Nedster. I'm going to have to snoop harder next time.

Stay safe Matt, and STK !

I guess in the back of my mind I knew that maybe I shouldnt mention the "collaboration" but I just couldnt help it. I guess I was bragging a little. I did my research first and noticed that John and Ned had worked together on a previous LTW project so I claim that as a precidence and plead the 5th.

Now Im just going to bask in the glory of having a custom pistol built by a couple of the best smiths out there. Ned and John, you guys are the best. Thanks again.

Also to all the other guys who posted I can't say enough about how great it feels to know that there are people out there who support all of us soldiers. The 101st is over here right now too, as a matter of fact they are guarding our chow hall.....

Matt

Matt, You won't be disappointed. Both John and Ned do absolutely stunning work. Stay well and come home soon. Best to you and all our guys serving in harms way.

My thoughts and prayers are with you guys everyday, I was there in 91. My family damn sure cares about our troops there, and I don't care what the papers report. There is another vet on this forum who makes the best leather in the world, and I know he cares about you guys too! No matter what you read, there are people who care, period! Keep your head high, and remember, GBA!

I wish I had thought of something like having a pistol built while I was deployed to Desert Storm. I really feel that America as a whole is behind their troops. I know as a vet. and the father of a active duty Soldier, I wish you a safe and speedy return to your family. I also want to thank you for your service. Oh and the real Airborne would start with 8 and end with 2.

As a former MI type 84-92( no oxymoron jokes please) who also fell from the sky, I wish Matt and all our brothers a safe and speedy return. I too will be sending a Springer to John once we agree on what it needs and I just give up and let him do the right thing. I am just glad I dont have to wait a year in the sand. If the uncle calls though Im off in a heartbeat.

101 82 173 504 etc etc just be glad we arent in the airforce!!!! Just Kidding, but you know when people ask WHY we jump from a perfectly good airplane, just remind them it's because they are flown by AirForce pilots, they take off okay, its their landings that have me worried.

Hey now, watch it! Some of us Air Force guys were jumping out of that perfectly good airplane right next to you, of course that was after we tied your boots for you and showed you how to work the chute.....

Well the Army guys actually jump out after it takes off. Just kidding, and ribbing the zoomies, I do admit the USAF has cooler chow halls, oops , dining facilities, and they live in dorms not barracks, and heck , if the a/c in the van aint working , they dont go to the field.

PS my Uncles were Airforce, Dad and older brother Navy, Cousins - Airforce and Navy, both granddads Army, and my 14 yr old baby daughter announced she wants to join MARINE rotc, darn that MTV rock and roll, the Marines, LOL.

On a gun note, I shot a new springer xd.45 hicap today , pretty nifty. But I had to take out my steel milspec and left fly. cant wait to hear back from John, but guess he is busy with SHOT. I can wait. hell mybe I better go somewhere for a year, I am anxious to have a true custom.

Take Care Matt, keep your head down, the enemy is a coward, they will kill women and children and hide behind masks, they have no honor, no integrity and no courage.

Al Shear, What do you know. You and I belonged to the same battalion. Now I know it really is a small world.
