I'm not sure if this is appropriate for the forum but I'd like to know to some of the common oddities that you have to fix on Colt 1911's. I've seen the back of slide to frame fits that stick out by 1/16" and I understand that it's fixable on custom guns. Now, it seems like a new problem has come to the surface, the recoil plug channel on the series 70's are off center. Some by a little, some by alot. If this something that you run into often and can you do something about it? I've heard of 'smiths "straightening out the lines," is this part of that work? Is this off center machining something that's common or something that is just a new problem.

I love 1911's but it sure seems like little things like this are just a total pain in the %&$.

It could be in the less than stellar quality control Colt had for awhile. If you were to look at a Kimber or Springfield Armory, you would not see nearly as many of these problems.

The slide machined off-center will require a new slide to correct, depending on the severity. The straightening of lines is done on guns generally where the radiused surfaaces intersect with the flat surfaces. A common area for there to be wavy or uneven lines is around the trigger guard opening where it intersects with the frame flat. Also, along side of the dustcover where the flat meets the radius is a fairly common area. Someone posted examples here a few months back IIRC of these areas not straightened. It's kind of one of those things that you need to see to understand, and usually once you see it you will never be able to have a 1911 that all of the lines aren't straight. So be careful, LOL

I have a Springer and a Colt in front of me right now and everything you've said is absolutely true.
