 Post subject: Scuffed barrel
PostPosted: Sun Jan 08, 2006 6:55 pm
I have a 1st. Generation Colt CCO that has scuff/scratch marks on top of the barrel near the front of the ejection port. It appears to have been caused by the locking lugs. (?) If I polish them out will it reoccur? Is this a fitting issue?

Guys this is really pretty normal, as the barrel is somewhat free to float up and down on the link/slide stop pin as the slide moves back and forth from it's in-battery to recoil positions. This is because there is normally no recoil spring pressure on the barrel itself (and if there is, you can have some other problems, such as vertical stringing). Unless there is an inordinate amount of clearance between the barrel on the frame bed and the underside of the slide (typically not much more than .010-.020), you're likely to have some scuffing as the slide moves over the barrel.
Hope this helps,
