it does warm the heart that 1911 gun smiths have such a back log. Shows the demand for such a great product made by the best america has to offer.

With that said, i am awaiting for some emails to come back from some of the gunsmiths I have contacted. (the bolded below I have heard back from, or talked to on the phone)

i have contacted YoBo, Gemini, Heinie, Novak, Tripp, BerryHill,

I am looking for some cosmetic work, MSH serrations, front strap serrations, slide flattening/serrations, and front cocking serrations.

Like i said, all of it being cosmetic, but I would like the front cocking serrations over all of it.

I am heading to tiger valley for their advanced gun course in april, and was planning on taking my SA 1*.

Understanding that the back logs right now are high coming back from shot and hoping this isn't out of line asking, but are there any Smiths that would be able to take on this cosmetic project before I attend my class in 2 months?

best,
derek

I would always put Yost on top of any list but having said that if you want just cosmetic work done I know a good smith who lives close to me. He does it mostly as a hobby and has very little if any back log contact info is.

http://www.bcarmory.com/

Look at his site and give him a call he is a nice guy.

Gary

Maybe contact them directly instead of making it a thread for all to see.

Gary,
thank you for the reference. I will give him a call.

Scot,
I am sorry that this thread is an inconvenience for you. But it also will help me in a search by others offering other smiths to contact, as Gary did.

I have contacted them directly by both email/phone, thanks for the suggestion though.

Unless things have changed recently with Virgil Tripp he would have no problem doing that sort of work within your timeframe. Matt McClearn is another really good guy who does good work and might be able to turn you around quickly. His website is http://www.mcmguns.com.

I know not getting a prompt e-mail or return call is often frustrating but be patient. Every second a smith spends on a phone or answering e-mails is lost time. Many guys will try and return calls or e-mails with in a couple of days. I will tell you this, Richard Heinie is no longer accepting work.

I just talked to Marc (Gemini Customs) and he's very quickly working up to a year backlog, I'd get it in quick if you want to get it. Marc is working up an S&W revolver for me that should be done shortly.

Thanks for the replies fellas. All the Gunsmiths i have talked to so far are slammed. I did get lucky though and got ahold of Virgil. He said he will be able to take care of me..not the first time he has either..

Funny thing about backlogs. Some guys may have shorter ones but that is not an indication of anything in paticular...... All of the guys mentioned in this thread, I'd jump onto their waiting lists, were I looking to get something done.
