I recently discovered this fantastic site... thanks to all of you who make it what it is.
I thought I'd share some pics of the 1970's Combat Commander that Ned extensively re-worked for me. I found the pistol on Gunbroker... it was looking tired and funky from aftermarket parts, but I envisioned what it would look like without the funky parts and returned to traditional looks. To my eyes, there is a beauty to the traditional 1911 design that a lot of the Johnny-come-lately features just don't have (nice as some of them can be). So after buying the Commander, I decided I wanted to have it restored to present an overall traditional appearance, but with some cool, custom twists. Ned was great in working to this end. I suppose I might have hampered his creativity just a little by asking him to stay close to traditional looks, but he has stylistic touches and subtle refinements all over the gun which are not "traditional"... yet the overall appearance is traditional. I totally love it. The final product wound up looking just like I wanted it to be, but even better! I asked Ned to do a few special touches, but didn't specify exactly what they should look like, I asked him to surprise me... and that he did, in a very good way. The holes in the sights are where he inserted the tritium lamps I requested. Who would think that a pistol like this has night sights?

Now I think I want him to do something a little more "out of the box" so to speak, just to see what he'd do!
Colt Combat Commander (pre-series 80)
At present I have a new Colt NRM 1991A1 stainless Government model with John Harrison for some extensive modifications... looking forward to showing that one off too, one day before too long.
