Hey all,
I'm in a bit of a quandry. I'm thinking of a "retro-old-school-throwback-simple-working-gun" whatever you want to call it 1911 either built on my SA GI or one of my Colt 70's. Now I LOVE the way the "stock" GS looks on a 1911, like these tasty morsels. ...

In current "stock" form, I don't get hammer bite (on either my 1911's or my BHP's), but if I were to go with a hi grip front strap mod like YoBo's or Mr. Harrison's, I assume my risk of "hammer bit" rises? My concern is that if I go with a 1*-ish type build are there any mods done to the tangs that would make it difficult to add a beavertail should I need it? Is it a "there's no going back" type situation? Anyone here have a stock GS with a hi cut front strap that could give me any input?

Thanks,
Rich

Rich, No worries. The normal procedure is to smooth out the sharp edges and perhaps round them over somewhat on both the grip safety and frame tangs. None of this would preclude your adding a beavertail later if so desired.

Two of my favorite shooters have the original, M1911-style grip safety. It has the classic look, and gives a nice, high hold. The safety tang can be contoured to match the frame, so there are no sharp edges. A little shortening/recontouring of the hammer spur will complete the no bite, no sharp edges combo.

Could you please tell me about the sights on the Colt (top picture)?

I have a stock Series 70 9mm that is a fantastic shooter but I have trouble picking up the tiny front sight. I want to retain the look of the gun but make a few subtle changes that improve its qualities as a shooter. Your sights don't detract from the classic look but seem to offer a much nicer sight picture.

Thanks in advance-

Brent

Brent,
I have no clue. Unfortunately, I cannot say that the pistol is mine. I DO know that it's a Dave Sam's pistol. In fact, I got the pics off a post here. Do a search for Sam's, check out the wonderful pron, and you'll probably get your answer.

I have a Commander ring hammer and grip safety on my S80 Enhanced Commander. Even with the high cut, I have no issues with hammer bite.
