John Harrison is finishing up some mighty fine custom work on a 1991A1 Government for me and I'm trying to determine if Black-T is fine enough as a finish to visually compliment the quality of John's work. The gun is stainless, which certainly shows off the fine work all on it's own, but I'm pulled in the direction of black on this stainless gun... call me crazy!

If anyone has some nice, detailed photos of Black-T finish I'd sure be indebted to you if you would post them here to help me decide on the finish. I'm comfortable that it's a good quality finish, I just want to see some detail as to how it preserves detail and how it appears. Thanks so much.

BTW, when I get the gun back from John, I plan an extensive photo coverage of it, which I'll post here. Thanks again.

Here's a pic of an Operator with Black-T. There are a few more on our site.

Thanks Ted for the photo. That Springer has a nice gleam to it. I like the look. It doesn't look like the finish is so thick as to give the "rubber gun" look... the fine details are still relatively clean.

I went to the website to view the other images... that finish looks pretty thin indeed, which is what I was hoping to see!

I like the factory standard ArmoryKote finish on my Springfield TRP, but it looks a lot thicker than Black-T. Also, it seems as though the ArmoryKote is a blacker black, while from your pictures, the Black-T looks a little more like graphite. Does that sound about right from your experience? Is Black-T your preferred "spray & bake" finish?

I'll probably have the obligatory first-timers chat with Mr. Birdsong before coming to my final decision, but I think I will probably go with Black-T on my stainless 1991A1. Thanks again.

All it takes is that one call to Walter. He's truly a class act. For handguns, Black - T is my only choice for a really nice gun that needs to be "painted". The other coatings are OK for "working" guns, but I agree - they have a "thick" look that's a little less appealing.

How does Black-T hold up on revolvers (like in front of cylinder and muzzle)?
