Finally got my 1911 shipped out to Ted & Lew.
It will be awhile before I get it but just the same I am still very excited.
At least I know that I will have plenty of time to decide between blue or hard chrome or two tone :?

Lew,
Thank you for such a quick reply when my package came in your shop yesterday 8) and I am glad you all liked the little extras that I put in the box. The Rapid Prototype machine is incredible.

I looked at the new Operator yesterday, I like it but it the price on it is high for a gun that will need some parts swapping, I wish they would do a Mil-Spec version of the new design...

Ray,
Glad you liked it. Do you work there also ? Who all is working on guns there ? I used to spend a little time on Pistolsmith forum (drooling over Ted's pistols) but got too busy until lately. Like I told Ted & Lew I can make things on manual/cnc lathe & mill centers plus a crapload of stuff on E.D.M.s but I am smart enough to know that doesn't make me a gunsmith  The Rapid Prototype Sinter Station is a center I would have to back fill on when I worked in the prototype dept. before I went to work in manufacturing engineering dept. Our shop is in the medical business, hip-knee-femur replacements and the instrumentation surgeons need to implant. Anyway its a good thing that I don't live in your area cause I would be next in line for an apprenticeship. :P

Scott,

Yes I work there also. I gave up my job as V.P. of Operations running several manufacturing facilities in the Northeast, in order to semi-retire and do something that is a hobby and enjoyable. The manufacturing job was no longer enjoyable. When you hate getting up in the morning and going to work, but enjoy getting up to doing a patrol shift as a part-time police officer, then little warning lights go off and say it is time for a change. It is good to be able to do something like this while still young enough (40) and learn from a friend and great pistolsmith (Ted).

Best,

Ray

Witherspoon,

Here are the cars and a picture of my self and one of my old buisness associates, but I don't think my wife would appreciate any pictures of the "young chicks". It is kinda cool having a wife that is 30 and that still gets carded EVERY time that we go out.

Ray,
Yeah your still young  , I am 35 myself :( . I got a new lease on work life by changing depts. I have told people before that if you have to spend 40 + hours a week doing something you may as well do something you enjoy.
Man I love the BMW, wife says I have to get her one in ten years after our three daughters get a little older.
I am waiting for Donahoe coilovers, deaver rear springs, etc. for my Tacoma 4X4 8) so I can comfotably stuff 33s and get full suspension travel :!: .
My wife just turned 30 herself and Ray you are correct it is sweet to go out and have your wife STILL get carded, she is my young hot chick...

Sorry, Ray -

We just couldn't resist. It's true - you can't take a day off around here. Paybacks being what they are, I think I'll sleep with one eye open for awhile

You know, after further examination of the Gremlin, the turn signal lenses look to be more red than amber. Could this actually be Steve's department issued detective car?

Hey Steve-

If you need one of the old, magnetic Fireballs to stick on the roof, I might have one :)

Ray-

I think this thread has been hijacked, but I really like the 'Vette. Can we have some details, please?

Thanks.

Hey Witherspoon,

It's a 74 that is running a small block 400 (bowtie block), phase 6 aluminum heads, single carb. The motor was built when I lived in Detroit by Vince Impastato (the guy who built the engines for Budweiser's marine racing teams). It dynos at 617 HP of the back wheels on a chassis dyno. The suspension is totally different also. The A arms and trailing arms are now tube, the front coil springs are converted to a fiberglass cross leaf, different mounts and spring for the rear, different bars, aluminum body busihings, Koni adjustable shocks, etc... . It pulled 1.02 G on the skid pad at the GM Milford proving grounds.

Best,

Ray

617!

"There's no substitute for horsepower and cubic inches."

As an old "gearhead" myself, I well know that saying "Speed costs, how fast do you want to go".

Mind if I borrow it for a couple of days? I'll snatch 'That Bailey Fellows' get out of jail free card, and have myself a time!

If you don't mind, of course.....ImageImageImage

And you mean it was still in operable condition???? I still am in awe when I see Ford Pintos on the road today. I tell my wife to stay at least 500 ft away just in case of a sudden stop, not spontaneous combustion of the Ford Pinto.

If that is the case, we may need more than one GOOJFC. I'm sure I can come up with something.

That car was indestructible :D I used it like a truck cause I roofed houses at the time and the car war a gift from my roommate back then. Ugly as hell but had the same 258 in-line six as the REAL AMC JEEPS which is an extremely proven durable motor. 8) I used to tell people that Wayne's World owed me royalties since that at the time I owned said vehicle I was a long haired kid living and partying in Seattle at the time.

617 HP? DAMN!!!!

My Rover dyno'd at 42.4HP and 83.4 foot pounds out of it's massive 2.25L 4 banger. If I get a good head start down hill, I can hit 80MPH, but it's scary and don't expect me to stop in under a few hundred feet.

The only G's I can pull is when I drive and someone says, "Geez, is that thing highway legal?"

Nice Vette.

Jeff
