Are the different sizes of frames?
Like the ones used on government vs' commander or officer models?

You named them right there, Mntngoat. Those are the "main three" I guess you could say. I'm gonna say that anything other than these three is unusual and probably custom.

Thanks for the reply Ned, are these different sizes as well? and is it possible to use say a 5" slide on a commander length frame if they are different in size?

That particular combo does not work as the Commander frame has a shorter dust cover, so it leaves a big ol' gap. A guy could fill it with a custom-made recoil spring plug, but I have not seen it done.
