I know a few people do this and was wondering your thoughts on this treatment. Any opinions on who does the best job? Thanks.

Hi

Gee - you and I both have HiPowers and 1911s, and now you come out of the closet! To be honest, I have some of the G19's in my safe. For what it is worth, I have handled a Robar grip reduction, and have one done by Dane Burns about 4 years ago on one of my guns. I much prefer the job that Dane Burns did, it was smaller, somehow seemed to give a higher grip. All of this is subjective.

Also, FWIW, I had a trigger job done by JP Enterprises (they mostly do AR15 stuff), and it was fantastic.

take care.

Richard

Actually Richard, I'm not yet back into the Glock mode because of fit for me. But it crosses my mind now and then and the only way I'd get one is if I did the reduction treatment.

At a couple of ITTS classes this year i've handled a Glock 21 that Scott Reitz owns. Pretty damn nice, done by Robar.

If I ever own another Glock I would have the Robar grip reduction.
The only model that interests me is the 20 10mm but it is a huge gun and Glocks point high for me hence I would get the reduction.

That's my problem. Points high and too fat for my hands.

I have a Glock 21 that I sent to Robar for their grip reduction. It took about 10 days and the result is a marked improvement. It points and shoots far better. It's not the most attractive modifacation...but it's a Glock. If you're shooting a Glock for it's pleasing aethetics you're cracked. The Robat mod is the most aestetically pleasing of the grip-mods available elsewhere. Well worth the price. No regrets. :P

Dane Burns does a Glock grip reduction that looks pretty nice but right or wrong I have read some things in other forums that made me decide to go back to Robbie Barkman who I had used to work on my old Springfield 1911. He is polite, professional, and fast. You can give Robar specific instructions as to how you want the grip altered and they will do their damnedest to make you a happy camper.

Keith...I too shoot with Scott Reitz...we both sent our Glocks at the same time without telling each other. Both of us were going to attempt to make the other jealous with our new custom Glock. Oh well, sick  minds think alike.

Well, we made it almost 10 months, but somebody was bound to break the ice and expose the putrefying pustules from the underbelly of the low end ugly gun market

Strike one, Hoser

Oh, BTW - put me in the "Doesn't prefer Glocks with grip reductions" group. :P

:D I think we need a new subforum: "Custom Tupperware." We could include custom silicone implants to make it interesting. I have owned about eight or nine Glocks, but thanks to Steve Bailey, Ted Yost, and that first 1* gun I bought last year, I only have one Glock 17 and a Glock 26 left. Everything else was liquidated to purchase more custom 1911s. I have been liquidating almost everything that doesn't say Colt on it after drooling over all of these nice custom 1911s from CT Brian, Ned Christensen, Dave Berryhill, Don Williams, Stan Chen, John Harrison, Chuck Rogers, of course Ted Yost, Steve Bailey, Randy Adams, etc. I hope to have at least one from each some day.

If I still had the G21 (I may buy another if I am able to keep my job) I would definitiely have the grip reduction done - - by ROBAR. I think their experience with plastics and bedding compuds wtc on their custom rifles gives them a significant edge as far as the aesthetics and quality of the job they do. Next time I see Scotty Reitz, I may ask to shoot his G21 (I also have to check and see if the grip reductions are authorized for carry).

No reductions for me. I have a G17 in my safe--if I ever pull it out, it'll work. I use a G36 as backup to my custom/higher-end 1911s. If the wait times weren't so long, I'd take the Defender of the shelf, and have some of the LTW crew go to work!

Be well!

This evening I saw Scott Reitz's 1* done by Ted - I only have one question....where is the best place to sell used Glocks w/ Robar grip reductions? I too am planning on liquidating all non 1911 pistols and replacing them with custom 1911s.

But in Hoser's defense...if it can't be a custom Colt 1911...it's a Glock 21.

I've done several but am no longer offering it because the way I was doing it was so labor intensive, that even though some people still wanted it done, it just didn't feel right charging them 3-4X what the Robar job costs. They even have the mod on sale sometimes for $100-ish, not a bad deal. Dunno what Dane charges but i'm sure it's the equal of the Robar job.

Basically I was machining away the backstrap and then inserting a piece machined from steel, aluminum, or Delrin. It was kinda heeled in on top and crosspinned on the bottom, and helped out as a magwell surface at the rear. Still have a few pics on my site, #'s 27 and 28 on my gallery page:

Ok, this may be a silly question, but does this gun point naturally for ANYONE who's owned or shot these? Everyone I've asked says they point high. If so, why doesn't Glock fix this!

Andrew,

One of the coolest guys around gave him that gun. Best place to sell a used 21 with grip reduction might just be me.

Ok guys, Glocks really have nothing to do with Custom pistols. There are lots of other places to discuss Glocks (GlockTalk for example).
