I was thinking what I will want to use to finish my first project 1911. I thought of a lot of different finishes, but noticed a SAA at the gun store which had been case-hardened. I have always liked the look of that finish. I thought it would look good with a case-hardened frame and blued slide/small sparts. Anywho, does anybody have any information, links, etc. about case-hardening. Also, who does the best type of this finish and what are the wear levels of the finish. I would like to know how well the metal has to be finished (sanded, etc.) in order to have a good result with this finish, and if a lot of care has to be taken to keep it looking good. To preface this, I have no idea how case-hardening is performed so any info would be great. Pictures would be cool too. Thanks in advance.
P.S. On another note, this site has been a great inspiration as I work on my first project gun. Many, many ideas are running through my head because of the guns I have seen on here. Keep it up, it's awesome.
