Looks great! I would agree that the grips really help set it off.

Jeff... haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but judging by the test target John sent to me, it's plenty accurate. Distance was 50', seven holes in a 2 1/4" cluster right around dead center, so I presume the cluster is the shooter and the centering of the cluster is the gun.

Excellent, gentlemen, excellent! Both pistol and photos.

John- A little story for you. Since I "retired" I don't see Sheriff Feldman often, but I was visiting him the other day and he related this to me about the Kimber you built for him. It seems that some private contractors, who do "spooky" stuff in Kuwait/Iraq, needed the use of a range to get in some shooting time just prior to their imminent deployment. The Sheriff, of course, gave them access to to the department range and him not wanting to miss an opportunity to get in some range time went along with them. The senior contractor was quite impressed with the performance of the Kimber and asked if he could shoot it. Well, after blowing the center out of several targets he decided that his issued Sig needed to be replaced with a 1911! I was not told the gentleman's name, but if a year from now you are asked to build a pistol and Sheriff Feldman is named as a referral, you'll know the story.

DHart,

That's a great looking Colt. Congratulations.

Great work, John.

Witherspoon,

This may be a long shot, but you wouldn't by chance be referring to C.G. Feldman, would you? I grew up in Orange County and he was the sheriff there when I was in high school. Just thought we might befrom the same area.

Jim-

That would be the one and the same. A fine Southern Gentleman of the first order and a very good Sheriff. He was my Sheriff when I retired. I worked there but lived two counties away. I was very blessed to have the opportunity to finish my career with Bill Spence and then with C.G.

I followed the link over, knowing that DHart's photos would be good enough that I could pick apart John's work...... the photos were definitely good enough but I couldn't find anything to pick apart, even jokingly!

Had to hook a vacuum pump up to my phone line to get all the great hi-res images to appear on my screen within my lifetime, but it was worth the trouble! I snatched one and present it herewith:

What is the color combo on the grips? They look great on the stainless gun, and are just what I have been looking for for mine.

Thanks for all the kind words. DHart's pics surely make a difference.

Witherspoon - That's great to hear that the Sheriff is getting in some trigger time. I'll keep my ears open for a referral from that direction.

jasonj- Those grips are from Larry Davidson and are crafted from black & gray G-10 laminate.

Jason... I think black/green. But you might want to contact Larry Davidson (Davidson Knives) and ask him... he'll be who you will order from anyway.
