This is my first post on this forum and I don't know if this topic has already been addressed. I'd like to eventually have my 1991A1 customized, but I would like it to look as close to "stock" as possible. Is it possible to put a tritium insert in the stock staked front sight and serrate it, or is it more expense and trouble that its worth? Also, what is the stock height on a 1991A1 front sight?

KevH,

Welcome to the forum and sorry no one has answered this before now. To do a staked in night sight, the manufacturers add a flange on each side of the blade to give you a place to support the blade while staking, other than the top of the blade, to avoid damage to the tritium vial. The flanges are sorta clunky looking, but work for their intended purpose. To avoid the side flanges, I see no reason why one couldn't drill a new sight for tritium lamp installation, serrate it, blue it, stake it on with a close fitting steel rod in the hole for support, then after staking remove the rod and send the slide out for lamp installation. The height is typically .175" on Colts. I think the stock sight is probably too short front to back for the lamp. Good Luck!

I think you can also send the slide with the front sight already installed to Tooltech, and they can do it like that.

BTW, welcome KevH
