The majority of the family came for Christmas this year. They ate very little, sat quietly in their places, and got along wonderfully. Although a few of the kids on either side couldn't be here, I did manage to get a shot of the two sides of the family happily together and a shot of the in-laws by themselves. This is, indeed, a happy marriage.

From Left to Right (Yes, they have funny names): Lil' 10, The RazorBLACK, Delta, THE .45, LS 10, LS .45, Lil' .41, Big .41, Papa .454

The In-Laws: All quite similar, yet so very unique.

I love the holidays!

GOD Bless you all.

LOL. It's nice when you get the family together for the holidays.

Ted and his guys have one of mine and the holidays were a little quieter with the absence.

All those guns and none of them had to eat on the folding table in the kitchen? :D Nice collection! I haven't seen a pistol with skip-checkered grips in a while.

Gentlemen,

Here's the poop on the family:

The In-Laws are 1911s. I started off shooting nothing but revolvers, and still have a very soft spot in my heart for a well-build big bore. I used to think semi-autos were for cops, thugs, and match shooters only. But... things change and we evolve into smarter, more respectable people (hopefully) as we go.

The commander is a Caspian based 10mm with a Bar-Sto, FLGR, Novak sights, McCormick Beavertail, McCormick hammer, strut, slide stop, mag catch, sear, and disconnector, 20lpi checkering, and 20lpi checkered Ed Brown wedge MSH.

The Razorback is descirbed in my most recent post here: http://www.louderthanwords.us/forum/vie ... highlight=

The Delta Elite is described here: http://www.louderthanwords.us/forum/vie ... highlight=

The Caspian 5" .45ACP is described here: http://www.louderthanwords.us/forum/vie ... =5084#5084

The two longslides are "twins" of sorts. They are the first 1911s Dave built for me, and both use Caspian slides (I wish now I had NOT gotten the big logo and front serrations), Caspian cast frames, Bo-Mar BMCS sights, McCormick beavertails, Ed Brown MSH, hammer, sear, disconnector, thumb safety, and slide stop, Nowlin pin set and plunger tube, Greider long solid triggers, and 20lpi checkering. The 45 has a Kart 6" barrel, and the 10mm a ramped Bar-Sto with a threaded, replaceable "bull" cone bushing.

The Ruger Redhawk is a blackened stainless .41 mag with Bowen sights (great sights for any Ruger), a recrowned, rethroated barrel, and a great single action trigger (I don't shoot it DA).

The Ruger Bisley is a .41 mag that has been totally rebuilt and tightened/smoothed in every way. It has an 8" Douglas bull barrel, steel ejector rod housing, custom steel scope base, 2x Burris dot scope, and fitted Hogue grips. It shoots even better than it looks, but only with 210-250gr bullets. Don't ask me, I just own it.

The top is a stock Freedom Arms 10" .454 Casull with an SSK TSOB mount and 2x Leupold. Freedom Arms makes guns that work and shoot with no modifications, and I have no reason to even consider changing it in any way. Right now, it's the only gun I own that Dave has not worked over in some way or another.

Happy Shooting!

Thanks for the info. That is a well rounded family.

I have a Ruger GP100 and recently saw a nice one modified by David Clements. He flattened the sides of the barrel which lightened things up a bit and removed the offensive Ruger warning billboard and gave it a nice DAO. The pistol in question was then beadblasted, but I kinda like the idea of doing something similar and winding up with the blackened stainless. Hmm. Gears spinning. Wallet pulling at pocket. Keep promise to wife of no new guns for a bit, but nothing was discussed about dressing up old ones....

Who blackened the SS for you? I want to do that to my Annaconda. That and have an unfluted cylinder fitted. Any recomendations? Magnaport said they'd do the cylinder, but I don't know about the blackening.

Smilodon,

I'd talk to Dave Sams about doing both jobs. His number is (804)375-3782. He did all the work from start to finish on all my guns. The only things he ever jobs out are hard chrome and anodizing. As for the cylinder blank, the only person I can think of who makes them is Bowen Classic Arms. Dave got an oversized 5-shot cylinder that had nothing but pilot holes as it came for an Old Model Super Blackhawk he did for me a while back. I'm sure Bowen can do one for an Anaconda, and if it were mine, I'd make it a 5-shot as well. The blackening is a relatively simple but not often done process. Dave is set up for it and does it pretty regularly.

mrbieler,

I am a huge Ruger revolver fan, and the GP-100 would make a great, strong base gun. If, however, you wanted to do all that to the barrel, I'd go ahead and spend another $150 or so to have it made from a match grade barrel blankSince Rugers don't have the ejector rod locking ball in the barrel underlug like Smiths, the machining is a lot simpler and less time consuming. 6-8" slab side, tuned & timed, Bowen sights, blackened... yep... I want one now.

Wow talk about a diverse family, wonder what the next generation looks like?

Thanks for sharing Jim, these are excellent examples and a fine handgun collection!
Cheers,
Ty
