My first son weighed less than this at birth. From my understanding there are a few of you out there waiting for your LW's. Well, a good number of them are done as you can see. Ted was just had a nice write up in the Complete Book of the 1911 and one of the guns featured was a LW Commander. These are still very popular based on how many we do in the shop. Had the chance to snap a couple of shots. Ted is responsible for three of these and I just finished the other for a LE Lieutenant. Actually that lucky SOB gets two of these. Man.........I gotta get promoted. :?

Steve,
We have to talk. Some years ago, I acquired a Springfield, 5-inch 1911 with an alloy frame. I really like the idea of a full-sized, alloy 1911. I acquired it brand new in the box, and haven't even cycled the slide! I have owned it for probably 10 years! Looking at those commanders, makes me think we should do something with that Springfield, as the full-length slide and the lightweight frame suit me perfectly.
Maybe we should look into "slicking-up" that little beast.
What do you think?????
Best,
Jeff

Man I love Commanders, lightweight, steel frame, doesnt matter. Then again I love the Gov't model too!! And then there's the CCO, etc. I wish all 6.5 lbs of guns there were mine!!

I really need to get a older Colt for some work. My Commander is S80 Enchanced. Nice and I like, but not nice like these....

Very nice guys.

Jeff,
I think that is a great idea. I can't remember seeing such a Springfileld. Should make a nice gun.

Wow!, those two with the Heinie sights look awfully good from here.
Ted and Steve, thanks for the opportunity. Have a safe and successful new year.

My favorite real carry gun (the one that I will actually carry, not worry about getting all dinged up, and therefore never really carried) is a LW made in the mid-1970's done by Wayne Novak as a fairly basic gun - beavertail, sights, fitted bushing, carry bevel, and reliable as the sun rising.

Great work and great pictures, guys.

If you think the Heinies look nice, you ought try the sight picture with the Yo Bos.... especially with the Gold Line front. They are my favorite sight!! Of course you can't go wrong with the Heines either, especially if you're going to have the rear of the slide serrated.

John, both do have the front "Gold Line" sights. I wanted the Heinies as I am used to them on my duty gun. Next gun will sport the Yo-Bo's as I like the original style and have heard many good comments.

Now, how awesome is that? 8) You don't get to see four finished custom pistols of any kind in one pic usually, but at Yo-Bo you get four of the same gun.

Nice stuff guys! :D
