Way back in June of this year, I sent Ted and company a Springfield Milspec I bought new in 1994. The pistol had always been good to me and had few thousand rounds through it without problems that weren't magazine related.

Not being able to leave well enough alone, I decided that the 1* package really caught my eye. Problem was that I wanted Heine Straight 8's which I guess means it's a 1*(*). I called Ted up and we talked and traded some emails before I settled on what I wanted. I also asked them to replace the MIM stuff with real steel.

At first I thought I'd get the pistol back in time for Christmas, but I quickly decided in my mind that with the holidays, January was more likely and I didn't give it much thought.

This morning, I got a call from Mr. Yost. After settling my tab, he said I'll have the pistol tomorrow.

As soon as I get the pistol, I'll post some pictures. Then it's off to the range. I'm glad I took a before photo. It will be nice to compare it to what I get back. I probably should have paid up front and gotten it as a surprise, because after not thinking about the darn thing for 6 months, I will be fully aware of it for the next 24 hours!!!!! :D

Can you guys at least send me a picture to look at!?!?!?!

It'll be a good one, I betcha!! I'm toting my SA 1* right now. It is a beautiful pistol, runs flawlessly and shoots like a dream. Just one word of caution though, have at least TWO drool rags handy when you open the box! :D

Well the FedEx man delivered the package today. Nice 1* carry case inside along with a zip lock baggy full of old parts and free peanuts.

Open the carry case and discover a new pistol...

Immediately jumped in the truck and hit the range. Trigger was very nice. Smooth. Not too light. No grittiness. Consistant. Made shooting easy. 300 rounds of Fiocchi down range before my back started cramping up which ended the session. I had 8 FTE. Round would chamber, but ejected case would get hung up on the extractor and the barrel hood locking up the pistol. All 8 failures were exactly the same which seemed odd. I called Ted and he suggested Fiocchi may be a bit on the light side. Tomorrow I am going to try out 250 rounds of Winchester White Box and 250 rounds of Samsom/IMI ammo.

Overall, I am very happy. The new safety is very positive. I'm really glad I went with the Heinies over the Novaks. I like the bobbed hammer, though I've never had a problem with hammer bit on the 1991 or HP's for that matter. I really like the blueing. The polished flats look slick.

The range had a new Springfield Milspec (not like mine, but the 1911A1 repro with verticle serrations) for $369. I'm thinking I may have to grab that for another project. The price is certainly right....

250 rounds of Winchester White Box and 250 rounds of IMI/Samson today. No issues. Definately a little snappier then the Fiocchi from Friday.

I just wish I was a good shot. When my back gets better, I want to invest in some proper training.
