I prefer blue guns. However, if I have a stainless gun, what do you suggest to blacken it? I know we can coat it with Rogard or maybe Black-T, but are there any new treatments or suggestions?

I always worry a bit about coating a custom gun because of the tight tollerances and the imagined function problems it may cause. Anyone ever have functioning problems after coating a match grade gun?

Hey, that powder coating looks great! Who does that process? Did Dave Sams do that in-house or is it done by a refinishing house? 8)

Hoser,

The process is not a powder coat, but a salt for stainless guns. It works for blue and stainless guns, but since it is more of a blackening process, it doesn't quite have the refined look of a nice blue job. Dave does it in house and he's been doing it for some time now. I have a few guns he's done with it now, and I'm sold. One thing... you can't have a polished finish. You can polish it all you want, but the finish is so dull that even though the sides will be smooth and bright, they will be too dark to tell it's been polished. Weird, but that's how it is. It does not etch the finish, as many people have suggested. It simply has a naturally matte appearance.

Hope that helped.
