I tend to have too many personal projects and not enough time to get them done, but after a bunch of fits and starts, I finally managed to wrap up a new carry piece for myself. This is based on a now out of production Kimber Compact Aluminum Stainless; of course with Kimber and their "new model of the week" tendencies, this may be back under a new name. I can't keep up with the steady deluge of new 1911 makers and models. It has an 7075 alloy aluminum Officer's ACP-size frame with their stainless steel 4" slide. Almost the footprint of a Colt Officer's ACP, but just a touch longer up front. It's chambered in .45 ACP, of course and retains the original Kimber bull barrel to which I added a deep bevel muzzle crown. I replaced the stock music-wire recoil spring and factory FLGR with an EGW flat wire spring, FLGR and reverse plug. I machined a pocket in the frame bridge and inserted a steel feed ramp insert. The extractor was replaced with an EGW HD extractor and the firing pin stop with an EGW FPS, shaped with a 3/64th" radius and a 2.5 degree face to make hammer contact as low as possible. A Harrison Design slide stop finished off the top-side mechanicals.

To handle sighting needs, I modified the Kimber fixed sight cut and one of my HD-006-T1 rear sights to marry up. Lamps are from Trijicon with a white ring around the front. I left off all of the common embellishments and just did High Power cuts with ball cuts and a heavy lower bevel on the slide. Carry Bevels on all the edges and corners made it easy on the hands and clothes. Since 7075 alloy isn't readily weldable, I was left with making the best beavertail fit that I could with the existing frame radius. I found that a CMC beavertail fit this one the best, although if this were a high-volume gun, there are other choices that are more comfortable to my hand. I used Harrison Design ignition parts and short, smooth trigger for fire control combined with a thumb safety from Barry Grayson. This safety has a slightly lowered shelf, which I find pretty comfortable. I used one of John VanZyck's flat aluminum MSH that I scalloped and round-butted. Combined with scallops on the front strap, I get adequate purchase on my grip without having a surface prone to snagging on or shredding concealment garments. All of the parts were finished in matte black IonBond DLC.
I've been feeding it W-W 230 JHP Ranger ammo from Tripp CobraMags.

I'm thinking that should work real well for a daily carry pistol, real nice...

A great setup for to have with you all the time John. And an excellent ammo choice as long as it's not the +P version!

My daily carry is a Colt Compact in a Crossbreed holster for a long time now, so I am really liking this!! Love that bevel on the barrel (great visual effect if looked upon from the wrong end), and the HiPower cuts to make the pistol find the holster better when ones' eye and mind are on other pressing matters. Kinda like the pointed toes on cowboy boots helping find the stirrup when one one is mounting an unbroken horse.
Really like the treatment of the slide stop and safety and those sights!! All in all, a well thought out and superbly done workhorse work of art!!
Carry on Sir!! Your work speaks volumes!!
