Every smith has what they do best. When I started working for Ted and Lew it became obvious that they built traditional carry guns done at the highest level with a total attention to detail. So, while pestering Ted on how to do this he made it more obvious....sublte as a sledgehammer. Which is about what it took. You start to hold on to little quotes like "do every one with the same amount of detail and attention." Probably easy when you have built at this level for twenty years. Get hit over the head enough times and it starts to sink in....sort of.

This one started as a $200 dollar POS we picked up. It wasn't shot alot just not well taken care of. Some people's kids. The frame was salvageable but the rest went out with the empty Brownell's boxes. "Good parts put together correctly" is another one I have held on to. Which is what it is. But smiths like the ones you see here on LTW make it look easy so to speak.

Anyway....this one has the following.

Yost-Bonitz action components.
Hand checkered frontstrap at 30lpi.
Flat topped and serrated slide.
Nicely fit Bar-Sto (Ted cuts and crowns these just right)
Greider solid trigger w/overtravel screw.
Single sided thumb safety.
Match fit extractor...which I think means an extractor fit correctly.
Hand beveled mag well.
Heinie front and rear w/ tritium front.
Carry bevel.
Polished flats on the slide
Hard chrome lower
Matched Cocobolo grips the lack of grain makes them kewl IMO.

I can assure you the new owner will be very happy. Be sure to thank Ted when you get it......Oh, that's me Thanks Theo!

Hand cut checkering. Satisfying to do, in a perverse way.

There is that crown I was talking about. 8) With a shot of the carry bevel. 8) 8) 8)

Flat topped and serrated always a nice touch.

Did I mention I dig the checkering?

Heinie rear wrapped around and the notch cut to .140 makes for a very fast and acquireable sight picture.

Yost-Bonitz traditional oval cut hammer.

Ted and Steve,
Simply beautiful. Steve, the checkering looks superb; not sure what else is your handiwork, but it is obvious you have a good teacher and you are a good student. Ted, I particullarly like the "attention to detail to each gun" thing, since you have one of mine in line right now :D.

Enjoy your new gun, Steve.

Lenny

Damn Steve, that is one fine looking blaster!! Your work is better than a LOT of full time smiths, and I should know. The fact that you do 90% of your own machine work also says volumes. You know where you can send that one if you ever tire of it :D

Congrats Steve on a pistol very well built.

To everyone else - You should see this in person, as it looks even better than the pictures.

This is one that Steve says is a keeper. If he doesn't keep this beauty then he owes me some money, as I said he has trouble keeping a gun vs. just building another one better everytime.

Once again, beautiful gun.

Ray

Maybe I'm just drain bramaged today... what kind of beavertail is that?

Ray, if I had a dollar for every time Steve has said 'this one's a keeper', I'd be able to buy France and nuke it.

He's definately showing us some talent, eh.

Beauty job Steve.

Cheers, Tim

Slick. Very slick.

I do like that muzzle crown. I lik 'em like that, or flush with the bushing. No Beretta-like snouts.

Nice rear sight treatment.

Those are some funky grips. Neat.

So, does anything actually get sent out of that shop? Or do they all just go home with you?

A great example of fine workmanship. The checkering is not only beautiful, it is amazing! It appears as if a CNC robot did the work. :)

I had the opportunity to inspect this pistol last night and I can say with out reservation Steve can build on helluva fine blaster. The pictures really don’t do the gun justice!! The checkering was nothing short of amazing, the slide to frame fit was perfect as was the very nicely done Bar-Sto, and the beavertail fit was flawless!! I also really liked the .140 rear notch, the way the rear sight is blended around he edges, and of course the mag-well bevel that is not cut too much into the frame. Hell, if this gun had a Colt commercial thumb safety I may have had to take it home with me. Very well done my friend!!
