Can someone please help me with the manufacturer of this hammer. I've been looking everywhere and can't find one for the life of me. Any help would be appreciated.

It looks like a Maryland Gun Works (MGW) commander hammer.

It might also be a King's Gunworks hammer. The King's and MGW are almost identical.

Could also be a Colt part that's been chamfered by a 'smith.

Thanks for your help guys! Looks like it will have to be the King's since MGW doesn't make them anymore.

I could be wrong, but judging from the Smith & Wesson rear sight, I'm guessing that it's not a very recent build. Of course the hammer could have been replaced since the original work.

Don's doing a very similar treatment for me on my Commander.

Hey! That's MY gun!

Okay, okay... I'll talk. The hammer on that particular gun is of MGW make, and, no, it is not an old gun. Although it is an Ithaca slide with a S&W sight, it was very recently finished by my gunsmith, Dave Sams. Maybe 3 months ago IIRC. Here's a link to my original post:
http://www.louderthanwords.us/forum/vie ... ght=ithaca

The thumb safety was originally left in the white, as it turned orange in the bluing tanks even after acid etching. It now matched the rest of the gun since Dave put it in his stainless tanks.

The Ithaca and Springfield: http://www.louderthanwords.us/forum/vie ... ght=ithaca

If you look at the post that photo came from, you'll see the Springfield Dave built for me as well, and it wears a VERY similar looking hammer that is actually a Colt hammer that has been reworked extensively.

I have used the King's part also, and I have found all to be very good. If you can get an older Colt hammer (Series 70 or earlier), do it. I have that style hammer on My Springfield, the Caspian/Ithaca gun, and my Delta Elite. The Delta is the factory hammer for that gun.

The Ithaca has a very sweet, short 2.5# trigger, and the Springfield is a very crisp 4#. If you talk to Al Shear, I'm sure he'll let you know what can be done with actions using these hammers.

I hope that helped.

This is the MGW hammer I had put on my Commander this summer. Looks a little different.

Thanks Jim!

I actually though as I was typing my previous post. "...it'll be my luck it's a recent build with a 'retro' look..."

Always go with your gut!

That's exactly what I'm looking for. Any contact info for Acutune would be appreciated.

I've been out at the range this afternoon and just got in. Here is the telephone # for Accur-Tune, Inc. in Belton, SC 800-588-7541 (order),
Customer service 864-338-7714. Ask for Lou.

Lou is the owner, he is retiring from the parts business, he used to do lots of gunshows in the SE. He's selling all of his parts. Hope you're not too late. Good luck.

Let me know. There's a gunshow next weekend here, he might be there. I'm going to pick up some parts from him. I'll be glad to pick up a hammer for you if you would like.

Dave:
Check your PM. I guess we should take this offline so we won't clutter up the airwave. :)
