Here are some pictures of a Kimber 9mm Target II I bought last year as a steel and IDPA pistol (and now USPSA Single Stack!). The gun arrived from the factory with a Series II safety that was not fitted properly. I got numerous failures to fire as a result. A trip back to the Kimber shop didn't correct the problem so I sent it to Virgil Tripp in Alpine, Texas for a final cure.

While Virgil had the pistol, I asked him to replace the Kimber thumb and grip safeties with STI parts. I also had him put in some STI fire control parts, tune the gun and install an EGW front sight. He blended in an S&A magazine well and also rounded off the sharp edges on the Kimber rear sight.

Virgil is well known for his chrome business but he also does some excellent 1911 work.

Enjoy! I sure am!

Very reasonable. I had him build a single stack 9MM on a Caspian slide and frame. I spec'd the gun and paid for it the last week in July and the gun was in my hands the second week of October. You won't find anything faster than that from a good smith.

I agree, less than three months is blazing fast. Best I've had is 4 months for a Jim Hoag build.

When I had Virgil build my STI a couple years ago, I had the gun in my hand in an amazing five weeks!

Now that Virgil has more on his plate with his single stack mags, etc. his turn-around has slowed. But he's still pretty darned fast and can do some little things in few days or a week.

That's a good looking gun. It's rare I see a Kimber I wouldn't mind owning, but that one definitely makes the grade.

Thanks for the photos.
