I have a 80 series Mustang that's been sitting in the safe for decades. I'd like to have it completely reworked for defensive carry. I recall that Scott McDougell performed custom work on Mustang's. Unfortunately, he passed away. . . is there someone else I can contact?

Thanx, Kurt

Doug McDougall died and MacGregor Scott is retired. You might check with Novak.

Kurt,

Dave Sams has done a few Colt Mustangs, Ponies, and hammerless .32s and .380s. There not a lot out there as far as aftermarket parts are concerned, but he does a great job with what he can. You can call him, if you're interested, at (804) 375-3782.

Here's his website. Take Rte 6 (or I-64) west about 40 or so miles from Richmond.. It's a real nice drive.

If building up one of these little guys i would suggest finding a few parts-

1)Bar-Sto barrel-the Colt .380 barrels are pretty soft and the upper lugs round quickly. They are usually pretty sloppy on the inside and outside.

2) Novak sights-they make a specific sight that works on this gun. The factory sights (front and rear) are awful and are usually not regulated.

3) S&MA trigger & guide rod. Scott MacDougall made an alloy trigger and steel guide rod--highly recommended. can sometimes find on ebay. Mac Scott is selling the last of these parts there. Search for him there and he may be able to direct you to someone with these parts in stock.

Disable the slide lock. They have a nasty habit of locking up mid magazine and you wont be doing any speed reloads with this gun.

Consider an extra power mag catch spring and radiusing the mag catch as they can accidentally disengage.

I carried a Mustang pocketlite in a pocketholster on and off for a few years and never felt undergunned.

These guns tend to work great, but can have a limited life span.

Check out Pocket Concealmant Systems for the best pocket holsters.
