Well, I had a ton of things I was going to say about this gun. I have watched Ted work a day a week for the last couple months on a gun he felt like building. I kept my eye on it and started to get really interested a couple of weeks ago when this one was getting close. Probably better to let the pictures do the talking. I have seen numerous custom 1911's, strangely enough not from any of the smiths on LTW with the exception of Yoda's (Ted) and John Harrison's, which was an awesome gun. I think this example of what Ted did here is the result of twenty years of work, and not settling for second best... ever. Probably has alot to do with why we are all here! Despite Ted's constant complaining about how little Lew and I get done. We did have some time to take pictures while Ted did most of the work. :P

Mmmm....40lpi hand checkering. Bad eyes and all!

Suffice it to say the grip safety was fit rather well. 8)

This picture says it all. Every line was straightened and detailed. I think the ivories are an especially classy touch on this gun. Reminds of what the Texas Rangers in the 50's may have carried.

What a nice blaster! I'd bet the owner will enjoy it. Steve, I agree about the ivories. They really look nice.

I don't see how Ted's eyes can be too far gone and still work with 40 line checkering. That is nice work! Is the under-side of the slide stop serrated or checkered?

Everytime I look back at one of the pics, I find another feature!

Thanks for the look-see! :D

Dang, I gotta get me some of that fertilizer that makes custom 1911's grow outta the lawn!

Looks real nice. Ted, why no chrome on the extractor? I usually have the plater mask them so that only the back of the head gets plated, just in case hydrogen embrittlement really is a prob. I see lots of factory extractors plated (on "stainless" guns), but this is one of those areas where I'm disadvantaged by seeing such a low volume of guns. I believe plating and entire extractor is not a good idea, but what do you think about doing just the head?

So THAT'S what that green stuff is!!!!!!!!!

That 'Bailey Fellow' wouldn't tell me when I asked him!

Don't see much of that stuff this time of year in the high country.

Cheers, Tim

Very nice work!!!

That is one of the most striking examples of 1911 artistry I have ever seen. Someone is very lucky to own such a finely crafted custom firearm.

I am sorry Mr. Brian, the grass you see there is the finest we have been able to bring up from Mexico  ......I mean the finest grass we have been able to grow during the winter. When the avg. temp hovers around 70 and we get gentle rainfall the grass here has a way of turning green.

However, when HELL sets in right around the middle of May, you can count on a ton of water and fertilizer to get anything around here to turn green.

The winter months help with the creative genius of the smiths here is Arizona. I am not suggesting that the lack of greenery in the winter months of Colorado have any negative effect. I would suggest however, that the SS Colt you have just witnessed is a beautiful example of what can be done here in Arizona. :P Feel free to move here anytime you like. 8)

Enjoy your Sunday....

Steve, I presume those pics are taken on the immaculately-trimmed front lawn of Yost-Bonitz? The one with exotic birds lolling in perfectly maintained Japanese shrubs, and the flagstone driveway with the uniformed doorman at the end, waiting for the next high-end Italian roadster to arrive, so that he can escort the customer into the mahogany-paneled lobby and fix him a cappuccino while he waits  ?

Winter's a little less green around here..... when everything ain't white it's either gray or mud-brown! We generally prefer the white, at least it's cleaner-looking!

Ned,
Were you here? The problem with our shop generally is at 3500 square feet, unless you are right next to Lew or Ted when you have question, you have to go find them or use the intercom. BTW, I usually have to buy Starbucks because all Ted and Lew drink is Mountain Dew. You are also invited down here Ned, I will buy you a Cappucino.

Steve, I thought your job was to STOP the grass from growing north of the border!

Don't be surprised if one of these days you hear a couple of hot Harleys in front of the shop. The bride and I just might motor down to see what kind of a thresher you use on that lawn.............. :?

Don't know if it's true or not, but I heard once that the Phoenix area didn't have any churches. Something about the preachers not being able to scare the people too much about going to Hell, since it was already hotter than that during the summers.

BTW, I guess you guys will be wanting Stan and I to send you some of our nice clean mountain water before long, eh.

Swing by on your way down there, Ned. We'll make that 'Bailey Fellow' pop for TWO cups of coffee......

Cheers, Tim

No, that's not the lawn. It's the fringe around our putting green

Steve, I came in incognito one day to check you guys out. I was the dude in the Rolls that had the burly driver with the thick Russian accent. You remember, white suit, white had, lizard shoes, walking stick, mustache and glasses? Walked through the place smoking a skinny cigarette in an ivory holder, looking over works in progress saying thing like, "I like ziss. Oh, und ziss von iss nice. Ziss von...... no, ziss von I don't like, no.... I vill take anozzer cappuccino now...."

....very nice shop!

Ahhh Ned, that was great. And YES I do remember you. I think you settled on a couple Glocks and a beautifully engraved Jennings.

Tim, are you threatening us with your trip down to PHX, with Ned and Stan or warning us. And rest assured I will pop for coffee, for everyone as soon as I get done mowing the lawn.

In a few months Ted, Lew, and I will be begging to get out of here. The preachers don't go around our shop much, something about the water boiling the closer they get.

Beautiful gun ! Made me get out my stainless Series 80 Ted built and I purchased through Terry Peters. Very similar, except mine has the hidden dovetail Novak rear and the length-wise dovetail front (and no ivory grips !)

Whose beavertail is that - an STI ?

I can answer for Ted on the beavertail...Yep, an STI.

If you have time Lawman, snap some photos of your Yost S80 and post them. I am sure more than a few would be interested.

You can email them to Mark Downing and when he has time he could load them on the site. If we catch Mark in a good mood. Looking forward to it.

   - I am shocked you would even suggest such a thing.

As long as I am out by 10:00, and turn the light out, nobody seems to care......or know I'm doing it. :P
