Is anyone familiar with the egw steel feedramp insert for alloy frames?
How is it put in?
Any drawbacks?

I've got one in a Springfield Lightweight Compact and it works extremely well. The positives are durability, the ramp doesn't get beat up with extensive use, and the top of the insert becomes a more durable barrel bed. I see no negatives. EGW machines the frame to accept the steel insert and then pins the insert in with a blind pin. I think they also epoxy the insert in. The pin is beneath the slide stop so you never see it when the gun is assembled.

Caspian used to do this on their alloy frames (when they did alloy frames), and the ramp was held in by a set screw. John Harrison also does this.

If you epoxy the insert in place can it be anodized after that? Or do you need to do all of the fitting and then have it anodized and after finishing re-install the insert with the epoxy?

I only ask because I have a bare Caspian frame that I want to do the insert in but obviously it will need anodizing after being built.

You cannot anodize steel or an alloy frame with any steel parts installed. Any steel parts have to be removed to anodize the alloy frame, then be reinstalled afterwards.

Great step-by-step illustration, John. It makes 80% of the work look easy. But it's that darn 20% that clearly differentiates professional gunsmiths from us consumers. :?
