Hello everyone:

On Saturday, March 3 Ned Christiansen will be teaching a 1911 armorers course at the Gander Mountain store located in Novi, Michigan.

The classroom is well appointed and the store is very easy to get to, being right off a major exit.

As you would imagine Ned teaches this class in a casual, approachable style that provides information useful for all levels of 1911 aficionados.

Last year the class filled to a waiting list so it's being offered again. Please check out http://triad-tactical.com to learn more. Registration information is available via the webpage.

I apologize if posting this here is a violation of protocol. I wanted to make sure fans of Ned's work here at Louder Than Words knew about the class and this seemed like the place to post.

I'm signed up to go along with my wife and two other friends. Hopefully bglimpse will be there if he ever sends in the registration. Sounds like a great class for the money.

I'd pay double but for the fact the class is about 1300 miles to far north!

Great idea though... 8)

There are still openings, thanks for your interest and support.

I'll update this thread when the class fills.

Thanks again and hope to see many of you there!

existing skill does this class require? I mean, I can take apart a 1911, but sometimes putting it back together is a problem.

Regardless, I am probably goign to sign up. Thanks for letting us know about something like this.

You are a step above where I was when I took the class last year!
After that class I went home and took my 1911 down to the bare bones (parts which before this class I didn't think you were ever supposed to take off) and put it back together in no time and with ease!

The class goes in such a way it does not drag for the experienced people yet at the same time shows those of us who are/were clueless exactly how to do things and why things are the way they are with the 1911.

Oh yeah...
For those of you who don't know Ned LOVES to cut things in half (I think he just likes to tear things up) and it is very cool to see how things work inside parts you normally wouldn't see inside.

No worries dude. There will be plenty of people that can give you a hand with that.

Sean that's great, you'll have a good time. As someone pointed out not only will Ned make you feel comfortable tearing your 1911 apart, someone at your table or nearby will offer a hand as needed.

Will parts be available for sale? It would be nice to be able to replace some things if we need to. My wife is getting excited about the class. She has been taking more of an interest in shooting and learning about her gun since she knows the class is coming up. Hopefully the class will give her a boost to continue this interest.

No, there will not be parts for sale.

I believe the counter near the gunsmith at this Gander Mountain has a pretty surprising assortment of 1911 parts for sale- so they may have what you need.

See you Saturday-

Brent

Class was today.
A good time was had by all.
As usual Ned really broke things down so everyone could understand the 1911 and had some really cool cut outs to show the inner workings of a 1911.

A big Thank You to Ned and his assistant (John I think?, sorry!)

And a BIG THANKS to Brent and Dennis of Triad Tactical!
They secured some great freebies for all in the class! I was going to buy one of the 1911 multi tools but we got them free at the class along with many other great goodies!

I am looking forward to all of the other classes coming up this summer!

Most of the time I like, no, love living in Idaho but we do miss some pretty cool stuff. Hey Ned! C'mon over, do a class and check out that pistol I have waiting for you and I'll show you some of Idaho's best...

Sorry to steal you're thread but it looked like you were done and I'm an opportunist... :)

Thanks Jeremy. Jon gets the credit for putting the Power Point together.

Huevos, this is too wierd. On the way home tonight I told Jon it'd be cool if I could get invited out of state to do a class. I said, "someplace, like, I dunno, Idaho". I'm not kidding. Stop bugging my car, man!

I'm so in. Yes to all of them.

Maybe we can come up with a traveling road show

We had a great time yesterday, we met some new students and had a few returning students and they all did very well.

Thanks to everyone who came, and especially to Ned for taking the time to teach all of us.

JWR

Great class. The freebies almost equal the tuition and the education far out weighs the tuition. You can learn the basics from any manual, but you won't learn some of Ned's insight unless you attend the class. Having Jon there with the powerpoint presentation and walking around giving hands on guidance really complimented the class.

We had an event filled weekend. Ned's class on Sat and then Disney on Ice and spending time with family on Sunday. I asked my wife what her favorite part of the weekend was and she said, "Learning to take my gun apart and put it back together myself was the best." This was priceless.

Ned, have you considered an AR-15 class?

Thanks guys and we look forward to the next one.

Wanted to add that Ned brought some Nossar leather goods to show the class. Very nice quality. I can see how some of the guys get hooked on leather and much as they get hooked on 1911's.

There is talk about a couple different things, class-wise.

This was a good class in terms of students, too-- sore real young ones, a couple of ladies, and a wide range of experience..... you who were just getting started were very understanding and did a great job of scaling the first part of the learning curve. At least one of you is pretty much at and beyond the gunsmith level already..... thanks for your patience.

I heard a few good ideas I hadn't heard before and ran into a couple new things (dirty little secret: you guys are paying me so I can learn!):

-The passive firing pin safety on the new Taurus 1911 appears to have a plunger in the slide just like a Colt but it does not come out. I think it has a head on it and can only come out coming up, from under the rear sight.

-One guy got his MSH retaining pin and hammer pin mixed up upon reassembly. Seeing it, I had to say, it's surprising I have not seen this before, as they are the same diameter, but one has a head on it and the other a groove in the middle. I can see how a person could mix them up if he hasn't done this before.

-Getting the Series 80 sear lever in place continues to be one of the hardest things to get right-- and it can be done wrong, with definite consequences. The good news is that with a few repetitions it becomes a lot easier.

Jeremy, thanks again for buying lunch for a couple west-side bums.....

My wife bought a steel Colt Commander yesterday. She bought this for her carry gun and is already making a list of a few parts she wants to change out, all thanks to Ned and the class.

That is really great. Take some pics of the commander when she is done with it!
I did a few of the same things myself upon coming home last week from the class. I thought "you know I wonder if can change that lousy trigger on that Springfield". Turns out, I can. I wouldn't have had the knowledge or courage to try that before the class.
