Was wondering if anyone does custom work on Kahrs besides Cylinder & Slide?

http://www.kahr.com/pistols_cs.html

I'm waiting to receive a Kahr MK9 Elite and was curious because I ordered a pocket holster from Pocket Concealment Systems and on their site they show their Harpoon pocket holster with a Kahr that has obvious work on the grip.

http://pcsholsters.com/catalog_item_HPN.html

I think Kahr referenced an article that mentioned Gunsite used to do custom work on Kahrs too. True?

Thanks,
Don

Yost PM-9...good luck.

Pro grade rear sight...reliability package, throat polished, trigger job...some dehorning...cool logo. Trigger job makes this thing shoot leaps and bounds over my other two cars.

and my YoBo Springer.

Thanks for the info and the pic... A Yost Kahr... cool 8)
Anyone else got any pics? Please post. :)

I checked Yost's price list and, to me, the Kahr pricing looks very reasonable. I'm surprised for some reason to find that Yost does some work on Kahrs.

I dont know much about Kahrs and never really looked into Kahrs before until just recently where I rented an MK9 and after renting it again another time I was sold. Solid feeling gun. The DA trigger was so smooth and light that it made shooting tight groups so easy. And very accurate too for such a tiny gun.

If my MK9 is as good as the one I rented, I think the P9 or K9 would be a good choice for the wife.

Hard to believe the trigger can be even better but I'm looking forward to receiving my MK9 and will definitely contact Yost for more info.

Thanks,
Don

Yeah, I got one for my wife, too. I just carry it and shoot it for her!

I had not commented since I have not had any custom work done on mine, but since it sounds like you don't own a Kahr yet, maybe I'll speak up with something that might help.
Be careful, Kahrs seem to come in two varieties: great and not-so-great. The first one I had was not so hot, but the second was just dandy and replaced my beloved J-frame S&W.

I would stay with a model with their standard-length slide and barrel, like the K9/K40, P9/P40, or one of the Coverts. The one I had problems with was an MK9, which uses a dual recoil spring system. There is a point where only one of the springs is actually pushing the slide closed...and it isn't enough sometimes, resulting in almost-closed slides when shooting. I've heard and read of others that did the same, and the ones I've handled in gunshops at the time felt like they worked the same way.
However- I've heard that Kahr made a change there (this was about four years ago), so it may be a non-problem now.

Although it sounds silly to get another one after having trouble, that's just what I did. I liked the general idea of the gun well enough to give it another try. The standard-length slide uses a single recoil spring. I got a PM9 Covert, which has the short grip like the MK-size Kahrs (fits in my pocket), and the standard-length slide of the P9. It works, and works great.

That second Kahr replaced the J-frames I'd been carrying for years (OK, the J-frame just moved to a different pocket). The trigger and sights are better, and it holds a couple more rounds, but mostly I switched because I just plain shoot it a LOT better.
I'd look at sending it off for some custom touches if I could part with it. Perhaps I need another to use while it's gone.

In no way am I countering what Barry said, but for perspective I thought I would share some thoughts about my Kahrs.

First, the only real handgun in my opinion is a good 1911...but I have to say I really like the Sig 225 as well.

That said, I have owned and currently own, several Kahrs and am sold on the gun and the company.

I own a TP9 (the wife packs it), a P40 and the Yost customized PM9. Prior to this I also owned an all steel MK9. I shot at least 1000 rounds (probably double that) of hollow point and fmj and never had any problems until very late the slide would lock back with a full magazine in the gun. I tried tweaking it but in complete haste I traded it for a SW.

In hindsight I now know that a simple spring replacement, which takes 10 minutes going very slowly would have fixed the problem (I know because I fixed my wife's TP9 that had the same issue)...and had I fixed it then I still would have my sweet little MK9.

The P40 actually fits into a large pocket and I often use an Alessi pocket holster for it, or an Alessi ankle rig...light and small. The stock trigger is good...but not as good as the stock trigger on my lost MK9. I have had zero problems.

My wife's TP9 came with crummy MMC adjustable sights...the tiny allen heads came stripped...so Kahr sent me free night sights and even paid the shipping.

While I have complete faith in the little plastic rockets, the metal ones with plastic or wood grips do fit my hand better and I suspect are longer lived. I don't expect to get 10,000 rounds out of any of my Kahrs but also have no qualms packing one or two at any given time.

The YoBo rear sight is the BEST modification on my PM9 and I plan on putting one on my P40. The work Yost did to the Kahr really knocks the gun out of the park...it isn't subtle, it is a dramatic difference...and I think my other Kahrs also work and shoot very well. All the DA triggers are smoother and shorter than my Sig 225 (which gave me nightmares it was so heavy on the first DA round) but the trigger job on the PM9 makes it as close to my 1911 as a striker action gun could possibly have.

Emailed Yost and got prompt response.

Fortunately for them they have a lot of 1911 / BHP orders. :D
Unfortunately for me, they are not accepting any Kahr work for a while to handle their current load. :(

Too bad because the trigger job and the cool logo sounded interesting.

Any other recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks.

No other recommendations? Too bad.
I just picked up my MK9 Elite and like it a lot.
Factory trigger is very smooth but would love to see how much better a trigger job would feel.

Very cool and nice pic too.

The MK9 Elite might even have a factory trigger job...heck...it looks polished.

How does it shoot? Let us know.

The only trigger work I've done on a Kahr Elite is a "reverse" trigger job. The client and I both felt it was lighter and shorter than it needed to be. Actually I have declined to lighten them. Smooth them up, yes (although even this is usually just an exercise).

I've found the MK9 to be totally, totally reliable, despite my natural suspicions ("it's too short to work!").

The trigger is so smooth and light that it makes it easy to place the shot where you want it.

Before buying, I have only shot the MK9 a couple of other times at the range along side a G26 and found the MK9 as accurate as the G26 if not better. And I find the MK9 as comfortable to shoot as a G26 weighing pretty close to a G26 but a bit smaller dimensionally than the G26. Again for me I really think the trigger makes all the difference and convinced me to get the MK9.

The machining and finish on my MK9 Elite is excellent. Reminds me when I had my S&W Performance Center Shorty 45.

And when I rented the gun it ran flawless. As Mr. Christiansen said, it seems too short to work so well but Kahr found the right combination to make it work in such a tiny package and find it impressive that it does get such a positive comment from a person with such experience with guns as Mr. Christiansen or that a shop like Yost would work on them.

I was about to post the same question before I came across this thread in a search.

Any new suggestions for a trigger job, reliability work, sights, etc on a Kahr PM9?
