During coffee with an old friend and RCMP police officer a little while ago, the Gold Cup subject came up. He asked why there wasn't much in the way of aftermarket sights even in this day and age for this particular pistol... I hope he doesn't see these pictures Ned! He owns several Gold Cups!

What, that old thing :D ?

That was a Gold Cup Commander I did for a guy about 4 years ago, maybe more. Ain't much cure for Eliason sights other than to mill out for a Wilson or BoMar adjustable, or, if they must be fixed, make them from scratch. That'w what I did here.

Although there is a screw in front, it does not hold the sight in. It just helps hold the front extension down. If you lost the screw the front would come up a few thousandths maybe and not look good, but the sight is held in by a large lower lug that goes into a recess in the slide, then there's a small pull dowel (pin with threaded hole in it) that runs from under the firing pin stop, through the lug, and back into slide steel-- so that rear sight ain't going nowheres.

That was a bit of a blast from the past!

The cool factor is mighty high on this one. The precision workmanship on that rear sight is incredible! Now I gotta figure out how to get one of those! The whole package is just awesome.

Ned, I know, "just another day at the office". But wowza!

I've seen many beautiful and truly unique ways around different aspects of a 1911 before, but this one left me with my mouth wide open last night, with my wife telling me to be carefull not to drool into my new keyboard! That pistol is truly a work of art! There's simply no other way to put it!

Posted in the correct thread, I hope.

I never changed the sight on my Gold Cup because I didn't find anything that didn't ruin the classic Colt flat top. Ned, your sight looks hardcore. I'm glad someone popped this thread. That would bee a cool item to sell in Brownells, but I know the man hours to produce that probably don't make sense.

That is almost not the kind of thing you could offer as a "machine-in" sight to sell..... there was a lot of machining and matching after the sight was put in, I'd say that was almost as much work as making the sight!

Thanks for all the compliments on this, guys. This was a for a, shall we say, very discerning customer. He was great to work with and really allowed me a lot of latitude in what to do and how to do it.

Ned, John, Ted, Tim, Chuck... have all been an inspiration to me through the years and THIS is why! Ned not only "works" a 1911, but brings it litteraly to life! With one glance at his work a person can IMMEDIATELY tell where Ned's focus is! I don't know how many times I cruise my endless photo library for different ideas and fresh new thoughts on pistols I have on the go and each and EVERY single time, Ned's library takes FOREVER to look through! Amazing!....

Here's something to think about... this particular beauty was built at least four years ago... just imagine what Ned has up his sleeve since this build! Can't wait to see it!!!

That is beautiful. I really need to get myself a really nice custom 1911. I am afraid I would just sit around admiring it instead of using it as intended.

See, you need to shoot it to really appreciate and admire it....
If all you want if something to stare at buy a picture or painting, get a 1911 from one of the LTW smiths and fall in love with how it functions... The looks are just the start of the beauty!

Be careful.... It's a BAD addiction, I think I woulda been better off starting heroin instead of buying from the LTW crew...

YoBo for starters has already gotten my future childrens school fund out of me in under a year haha

Guys, let me tell you this. That gun shoots just as good as it looks. The "discerning customer", who is a friend of mine, sold it to me after I begged and cajoled him for a couple of years. It really is something special. There's a lot more to it than the sight.

Gold Cup commanders are rare to start with, and this one is the rarest of all IMO.

However, it does have a little bluing wear at this point.

I think he has Hoppes #9 instead of blood or that rumor that he is from the future is still persisting.

I have before compared these guys with the likes of Masamune ( the great originator of the folded Katana) and John Moses himself would be tickled pink at the amazing work they do.

It is a shame that the rest of the world is so lost.

Can I just get a piece of steel with conymids for a key chain holder as I will have to wait years for my perfect pistol.

Well Jim, I'm glad it has a good home.... I was pleased with having the budget on that one to really "do some things".

There's some kewl forward thinking on that one, Nedly. Love the rear sight. That one took a year or two off the ol' brain cells, didn't it.
