Some time back, I asked my good friend and craftsman, Don Williams to take a Springfield Mil-Spec and turn it into something spectacular for me. That's exactly what he did.

I used to be able to take pictures that I was truly proud of, but alas that camera is no longer with us. As such, these leave a LOT to be desired and any flaws that are showing are either due to the camera or the operator!

The Focus isn't the best, but Don beautifully checkered the shortened and beveled slide stop pin:

30lpi checkering cut by hand:

Don knows I like my slide stop "thumb interface" changed up a bit. I really like the feel of this one!

A carefully fit Kart barrel and bushing with gorgeous crown:

I'm especially fond of the smooth trigger face:

After handling the very first "Ghost Arrow" gun 6 years ago, I really wanted that slide top treatment on this piece. This picture is absolutely awful and the arrows themselves are really hard to get to show up in a picture, but it's the best I was able to do:
Image

The build included:

The usual reliability and dehorning treatment
Frame and Slide fit tightened
Kart Barrel Installed and Bushing Fitted
Slide top flattened with "Ghost Arrow" pattern
French Border
Gold Line front sight
Heinie Rear sight with "tail" removed
Rollmarks removed (thanks Chuck!) and slide flats polished to a mirror
Ball end cuts
Rear of slide serrated with extra extractor fitted and serrated
"Holy Crap!" Trigger Job with 4# trigger
Trigger face smoothed and finished
Best Quality components used throughout
Front strap and rear hand checkered at 30lpi
Mag well opened up
Craig Spegel Presentation Grade stocks
Grip Screws indexed
Entire pistol blued by Glenrock Blue

This is the most accurate pistol I've ever owned! It's also the most stunningly beautiful pistol I've ever owned, and I've got some beauties! Don selected this particular gun as an example of his craftsmanship to display at SHOT this year. I only wish my crappy camera could capture the mirror polish on the slide and the incredible detail on this piece.

To my friend Don... thank you so very much for all you've done for me! I hope you know how intensely personal and special this particular gun is to me.

Mark

Now that is one nice piece of work. Clean and in looks and that treatment on the top of the slide is just great.

That is INCREDIBLE! I have to say that of all the sight options available, the Heinie modification where the rear leg is removed is by far my favorite. That is a real work of art.

Yeah, I really like the Heinie sight picture but really don't care for that damn hangy down thingy (sorry for the technical verbage).

Don does superb work. He knocked it over the wall with that 1911 that's for sure. Enjoy it & stay safe!
