I involuntarily said "oooh" when I saw that!

Do tell about the slide. Gold Cuppish slide serrations but it is not one.... it seems like I ought to know how that is but.... I don't.

Known also as an “AMU” or “Slant Groove” Colt Commercial Model, most are from '68 although I have seen a '69 as well. They are often confused with a National Match/Gold Cup but theses are conventional round top slides with the angled serrations... most people (even those at Colt) don’t know they ever existed.

I’ve owned and built quite a few of them...

... even had a Swenson built on one...

Photo of the day... I have always tried to take good notes on the guns I’ve built; things like spec’s, dimensions, measurements, sight heights, etc. As I was cleaning out and organizing some paperwork on my bench I realized that I had kept these files on every gun I built or worked on since 2010... no idea if I had notes on the guns from the 5 years previous to that.

In late 2015 I started using the blue spiral bound notebooks seen there, using a page for each build. One of the notebooks is complete, the other I’m working had to fill. So, no gun seen in the photo today... but lots still lots of work that’s left this bench.

Photo of the day... before and after a refresh on the 40lpi checkering and a refinish on the frame of this 9mm Colt LW Commander. I originally built this gun in 2013 with the slide and small parts being finished in DLC. They’ve suffered a few dents and dings but the frame (specifically the checkering and the anodized finish) needed some TLC.

I occasionally get asked what my clients do with the guns I build them. Do they shoot ‘em? Do they carry ‘em? Do they just look at ‘em? My answer is always the same, as long as the client is happy with the gun they can do whatever they like with it... although I would prefer they don’t toss the gun into a pile of rocks or something.

Dang Jason,

Doesn't the owner appreciate that his gun was just beginning to show character . . . and appropriate serious use? ;~)

Question: Was that frame originally done in Type III hard anodizing? If so, based on some Type III-finished fly reels I have, that gun has been handled a LOT!

Redo is . . . well, perfect.

The original finish was supposed to by Type 3 Mil-Spec hard anodizing... but I was always suspect of it and the claims of the vendor I was using at the time. The new finish is certainly better and verifiably Type 3.

The gun has been handled, carried, and shot a lot so it's hard to say how much wear it would have shown if the original finish had been up to par. In either case, the owner is "not afraid of using stuff" as he likes to say and this gun certainly got banged around a bit while it was toted around in an IWB.

Photo of the day... barrel fitting continued, before and after squaring the breech-face on a current Colt Government Model project. Now that it’s square the hood length can be cut to insure solid contact with the breech-face when in battery resulting in a barrel with no end-shake.

Photo of the day... beavertail blending from start to finish on a current Colt Government Model project. The first four photos show the part once is is on the frame in both the on (out) and off (in) position. The remaining photos show the part after it has been blended and shaped the way I like.
