I've recently made some changes to my business. I'm now concentrating mainly on 1911s instead of the list of guns that I used to work on. One thing I've done is put together a package of upgrades to make the 1911 into a more reliable and more accurate pistol. The BFP is similar to the "carry" packages that other pistolsmiths offer with a few of my own touches added.

Image
Here's a Colt stainless steel 1991 BFP with the following modifications:

A trigger job with tool steel ignition parts (this one has C&S Tactical parts).
Solid Videcki-style trigger with 4.25 lb trigger pull.
Standard grip safety relieved for the Commander-style hammer and rounded for no bite.
Kings thumb safety that has been shortened and narrowed.
Yost rear sight and black serrated dovetail front sight.
Kings match barrel bushing and recrowned muzzle.
EGW slide stop.
Beveled mag well.
Reliability Package with Caspian bar stock extractor and oversize firing pin stop to prevent the extractor from moving.
Checkered rosewood grips.
Mild carry bevel.
New Wolff springs where needed.
Bead-blasted finish with brushed flats on the slide.

While it normally gets a flat steel serrated or checkered mainspring housing and no front strap treatment, this one received a high grip modification with bordered stippling on the front strap and a stippled flat mainspring housing.

Image
This photo shows the modified grip safety and the Kings thumb safety. It's slightly wider and a little longer than a stock thumb safety but it's still small enough not to get bumped off while carrying .

Here's the same pistol with a ring-style Commander hammer and checkered black micarta grips for a little more of a retro look.

There is more info about the BFP Package on my website: http://www.berryhillguns.com/bfp.html

Very nice, very nice.

I particularly like-
The solid trigger. Hate holes in guns.
The front strap stippling. I like stippling myself. I know it often looks sloppy by nature; that treatment helps it immensely.
The thumb safety.
The "dehorning" on the grip safety.

Thanks Steve. It's taken me several years to figure out that it's just more efficient for a one man shop to specialize. Ted told me the same thing but I had to find out the hard way. I'm getting a lot more work done and I'm really enjoying building 1911s. There are always new challenges and the bar is constantly being raised by other 'smiths.

Great looking 1911...who makes the ring hammer and is it SS or hardchromed? TIA

Thanks Jem! The commander "ring" hammer is from Kings. They offer it in both stainless and blue steel. It's not in the Brownells catalog but you can order directly from Kings: http://www.kingsgunworks.com/

Very nice. I need to get a Colt series 70 to you. I would like just this level of work done on it to improve it but not make it into something overdone.

Nice King's thumb safety. It looks just like mine! Didn't I patent that!!! :D Really, I do appreciate somebody who has the care to take a good part and make it a perffect fit to their customer. Good job!

Whose solid trigger is that? I want a solid match trigger to finish my gun.

The trigger is Brownells version of the Videcki, part# 377-000-001 It's available in several lengths. The main problem with the Kings trigger is their appearance. They tend to have pits and casting flaws on the surface. I also like the Wilson safefty (with the narrow thumb lever). It's similar to the Kings except the thumb lever doesn't go all the way to the rear of the safety body.

God, I love that pistol. Stainless isn't normally my thing, but that is gorgeous!
